I just did the conversion for the Hella 500FF and it all went perfect. Except that just one of the Hella's is almost surging like blinking??? I think it might do this because I am running 1 hot from the the switch... butt connected into the 2 Hot's for the ballasts. Both grounds are good already checked them. Is that a bad idea. Hope it didnt come out confusing hard to explain whats happening:confused:.

hmm. thats weird. is it both lights?

do u have a miltimeter? if so check the voltage and amperage going into the ballasts and coming out, see if there is fluxuations there.

is the hot wire either on the batter or on the switch secure? could the grounds be moving in the wind?

No just one light. Its almost like one of the lights is getting full power and the other one "surging" is not. I have a multimeter i will check the power. That has to be it right??

not necessarily. if you can see if you can swap the ballasts around. if ther surging swtiches its a ballast prob, if it doesnt it could be a bulb problem. how long did you run them? sufficient warm up time? remember hid's dont like to be switched on and off as much as reg halogens could be. its hard on em

id say is a ballast problem. but where do you have the relay power coming from? straight from the battery?

If its not too hard than switch the ballast.

I have them hard wired no relay. Because all you need is the hot to the switch going to the 2 hot for the ballast and then your ground for your ballast.
Here is a pic but you cant see the surge lol.

yes but a relay is a big help. it takes a lot of strain off your switch, so all the current doesnt have to go through the small connections in the switch.

for safetys sake you should have a fused and switched relay

Yes or you will need a big case of switches cause you will be changing them every few days plus if you use a relay you don't run the higher current into the cab.
