Hello fellow taco owners. This is my first post here and of course, got a question. I recently (recently meaning yesterday) purchased a 99 Tacoma SR5 XCab 2RZ auto with 100887 miles for $6k. I purchased the truck because I had a 2007 Kawasaki ZX-6R sitting in the garage with only 3700 miles. It never got ridden and I figured why not get someting I can use. I also have a 2006 Tahoe but needed a daily driver. What better then a pickup truck. Well I traded the bike in at the dealership and was on my home within a couple hours. Once I got home, I completely detailed her out. Decided to run to walmart lastnight. Was cruising down the road at 50mph and completely lost power. Put it in neutral to coast to the side of the road, while coasting I tried to restart but only got one backfire and I heard a sound that I thought sounded familiar. Like attempting to start a motor that just lost a timing belt. But I thought noway, this has a chain. Well I contacted my buddy to tow me home because where I was at there were no street lights at all, couldn't see anything under the hood. Waited for about 30minutes and we were on our to my house. Once we got there and got my new truck in the garage, we started troubleshooting fuel issues. Found a few fuses that were blown. Decided to pull the oil fill cap and flast a light down in there and turn the motor over to see if anything was turning on top half of the motor. When we cranked it my buddy confirmed that the sound was familiar to him to. (Just to clarify, my buddy and me are both mechanics in the Air Force stationed at Moody AFB in Valdosta, GA) So I glanced down into the oil filler hole and low and behold. I noticed the bolt that holds the upper timing sprocket just laying there. Pretty much all you see with valve cover still on. So I said WOW, wonder how ofter this happens. I have been surfing here, toyota nation and customtaco and haven't ran across any threads addressing this. Is there an how-to for cylinder head replacement anywhere or does the haynes manual address it well.

BTW, I'm not doing anything yet to her. I contacted the dealer and he said he would make things good. I'm waiting to hear from him. Hopefully he doesn't say lets choose another car because I have only had the Taco for a day and I have fell in love with it already. And I know this truck will go for a long time.

Sorry for the book but wanted to make sure I said everything that I could remember.

    Thanks for any replies.
    Steve

Welcome to TW! If you bought it from a dealer there should be no issues with a fix. If there is, I am sure someone on here can help you out. Hope everything works out great!!

No. It was a local used car stealership. The same stealership I bought my other SUV (06 Tahoe) from. He seems like he wants to take care of his customers. We'll see on Monday:confused:

Thanks all for the welcomes. A little update. I went back to the dealer and to my surprise the manager was like "Here are the keys to a 2003 Nissan Frontier as a loaner and we will need the address of where the Toyota is so I can get it towed and repaired." He said "I told you I would take care of you." I was looking around for a camera because I thought maybe I was being punk'd. So I guess so far everything is spanning out. Now I will wait till the results of the damage.
