    turning into a 4x4
I'm a long time 200,000 plus miles proud second owner (80,000 when purchased) of a 2002 taco pre-runner step side. I'm moving to cold country (NE) and after looking at pricing of 4x4 rigs (Sticker Shock! retired fixed income) decided to do a conversion.
I found out after a little research being a pre-runner made a conversion within my mechanical ability. I love my truck anyway and was not looking forward to parting with it. Anyone with any expertise in doing similar conversions any and all advice I would love comments and feed back.
installed so far 1. front and rear differentials at 3.91 ratio (What I could find matching). Saw a hack on u-tube for the front diff. to keep it in 4wheel drive. I don't know how to wire electrical or hook up any vacuum help with that appreciated. 2. I bought and installed new hubs, axles, and manual lock outs. While there New shocks (KBB's), upper and lower ball joints (Moogs), and tie rod ends. 3. Just removed the 2wd trans. I purchased a (3G010) auto trans. (had rebuilt) with transfer case to replace.
The rest is in process any solutions to so far unseen problems greatly appreciated. All my mechanical knowledge comes from working on pre 1970's vehicles, as I'm in barking distance of 70 years old. So if I've misnamed anything above let me know.
