Hi Everyone. I'm new to this forum. I bought my first Toyota a little over a month ago. I have owned full sized trucks all my life and decided I just didn't need a full sized truck anymore with the poor gas mileage and not using it like a person should. My wife and I are building a new house, mostly on our own, and I knew I needed something to haul building supplies and pull a trailer with again building supplies so I started looking for a used small pickup. I really liked the looks of the Tacoma and started scouring the lots for a used one. Well I soon (well not so soon) after about a year of looking it was obvious no one gets rid of their Tacaoma's. There were none to be found. I finally bit the bullet and they had just got a new on in at the closest dealer that had what I wanted, being a 6 speed manual. They asked me if I ordered it in, and I said no, they said you're pretty lucky, we never get to see these pickups with a 6 speed. Again a surprise to me.

It took a little to get used to. It doesn't have all the bells and whistles as some of the american pickups like instantaneous gas mileage, but it has everything I need and then some like the back-up camera. What a cool addition. I can't believe how easy it is to hook a trailer up with this. I'm a gadget man anyway so I love these little gadgets.

My only complaint is the noise of the heater fan on High. Pretty minor, and I guess if that's the only complaint, I'm pretty lucky. I don't like the tires either, but that's more cosmetic, they will wear out and need replacing anyway. They don't have very good snow traction. They are great in mud and dirt, but seem to suck in snow. Not sure that makes sense to me, but it's a fact. Next winter, I predict it'll have different tires.

I'm interested in four things if anyone wants to jump in here. 1st is D rings for the front of my box. As I haul building materials, it's very hard to secure them in the front since they don't often get high enough to use the rail tie downs. I often haul 16 foot supplies and they need to be secured in the front. 2nd, I'm looking for a reasonably priced set of side steps for it. My wife is short and has a heck of a time getting in to the passenger side. I like the bars rather than the running boards. 3rd, The truck didn't have the upgraded sterio system, and I'd really like to add a sub woofer. Toyota has this as an upgrade from the factory but not as an accessory. Anyone know where someone can get the factory subwoofer, or one that mounts in the same place? Last, tires. Any recommendations on a good all season, and the tallest tire that will fit without a lift kit? This will be full of opinions, but that's alright. We learn from each other and opinions is how we do it.

I do have one question for the 6 speed owners. To start my truck, my clutch needs to be depressed into the carpet on the floor before it will disengage the safety. I really mean into the carpet here. Is this an adjustment issue, or how it is? My wife can't get it started because she doesn't have enough leg length and strength to depress it. I showed her the cluch over-ride button on the dash, but she's not comfortable with that.

Hey, sorry for the long winded introduction.

Welcome and good luck with the mods. Got beat on a link for the d-rings but that should get you started. There are also several options for a sub housing in the audio section including the Mr. Marv custom boxes. Good luck.
