    Hey y’all
I’m a proud happy owner of a 2021 gen3 I love the truck but definitely looking for a tuner/controller the throttle delay is brutal mostly. However would love opinions to know what everyone else runs.

    thanks

If you have an Auto, have you tried driving with the ECT button on? It will have a little more pep, but others like a tune. Welcome to TW.

Many enjoy driving as is (free)
Many drive with ECT turned on full time (free)
Many spend money on a custom tune OTT, etc. (not free-not cheap)
Some waste money on Pedal Commanders

A tune is what you seek. Do not waste a dollar on pedal controllers. Get your money worth

    Thanks everyone,
I’ve yet to explore the etc button so I will definitely try it out tomorrow. I just got the truck so it’s all very new and my last was an 07 sport wrangler manual with roll up windows so all these fancy things are nice but a little overwhelming. I love the way it drives just when I step into it I can count a few seconds before anything happens. I’ll report back tomorrow after I play with ECT mode on. Thanks for all the warm welcomings I’m sure I’ll be here often

My personal experience was that as time went by I learned to gradually press the gas peddle harder as the rpm went up. Hard to explain but there seemed to be a learning curve on how control the throttle. I no longer have a problem taking off quickly. Definitely has a problem with delay going no gas to all gas in less than 1/4 second. I would suggest you spend some more time if you could.

This forum is filled with fanatics who swear by OTT tunes. I don't get the hype. One gains 1-3 HP and the torque curve is barely shifted to the left. Like maybe 100 RPM.

PRESS THE GAS PEDAL HARDER. USE THE ECT BUTTON.

If the throttle response is your only issue, save the money and press the pedal more/use ECT. @Old goat1914 is right about finessing the pedal as the rpm’s climb. If you don’t like the gear hunting then look into a tune. Best money I’ve spent so far going with the OTT tune. I couldn’t stand the gear hunting.

OTT has nothing to do with gaining HP. Also it does not void the warranty and does not effect emissions (just got my truck inspected no emissions issues). The excellent thing about OTT is they custom remap the truck For how and where you drive. Toyota maps the truck to get the best MPG data. The fact that an OTT fixes the anointing gear hunting issue is worth the price alone but it does way more than that. My truck that I use for off road and has 33s but does not have the added weight of a RTT and I live in a relatively flat area will be tuned much different than an over-lander who is weighted down in lives in a mountainous area vs a stock mall crawler daily driver and so on. You have to fill a lengthy questionnaire and like me will probably have a pretty in depth conversation with the tuner to get exactly what you would like/need.

OTT remaps the computer settings - it:
    From OTT web site:
    https://overlandtailor.com/3gt-ott-custom-tuning
"makes better use of low and mid range torgue"
    "custom upshift and downshift"
    "remapping of throttle curves"
"adjust the transmission for the increased diameter"
"Available sport mode in ECT for aggressive shifting maps"

Well first off I want to thank everybody. This form is great so glad I joined you guys as I stated I came from a wrangler and the wrangler forums are nothing but a pissing contest and nobody helps anybody with actual answers so be here and actually have a conversation with you guys has been so nice. That being said that button makes such a difference driving to work today was much better. I think down the line. I will end up getting the tune for now until hopefully the economy turns around. I’ll have some spare change to get the tune.

+1. my personal experience is that the factory preset throttle curve is ideally suited for grandma's going to church. after thrashing on it for a few weeks, the truck came to the realization that i am neither a grandma, or am i going to church, and we mostly get along now.

i never got into ect mode. too many button presses when getting in. if i need more of any gear, i'm grabbing manual mode instead. trick is to shift before letting off to force the next gear change.

I just got rid of a manual transmission wrangler so I’m kinda iffy about the S mode cause I know it won’t be the same.

it's not. but it is. the main advantage is that it holds up to the selected gear. so '4' means that coming to a stop it will cycle through starting at 1st, and work it's way up to 4th. it also doesn't allow you to over-rev(angry dash beeps), and you don't need to rev-match(benefit of the automatic clutches).

it's no substitute for a 3rd pedal, but it's an alternative that allows more control. boring highway/around town, i'll keep it in normal autotragic mode. but if i want the 'gloves off' for any reason, it's in s-mode, and i control every gear.

just don't hit redline. the rev hang/safety will literally cut the truck off for 5 seconds...
