Well I'm not new to tacos, I had a 98 from 04 until last year when it was wrecked. Currently in the market for another one because it was such a good truck, although this time i am looking to go v6 but not necessarily 4x4.

The thing is that I dont really plan on using the 4x4. i just want a nice reliable truck to get me around and that isn't as small as my 98 single cab was. Whats the gas mileage difference between the 2x4 and 4x4 5spds? I was figuring that the 2x4 would be a little better due to the fact that it would be pulling around less weight.

    Wuzzampppppppppp!?

You said 5 speed so I guess you want a 2.7.
    2x4's get like 25-26ish I believe...
    4x4's are like 21-22?

Too bad they don't offer a PreRunner with a 2.7 and 5 speed.

EDIT: Ohhhh read the whole OP. sorry. I think the V6 is like anywhere from 16-18 maybe upwards of 20 with a manual and if you drive decent enough...

Well that's not too bad, i don't drive much so I guess gas mileage doesn't really matter now that I think about it. Also, it seems to be way easier to find a 4x4 v6 5spd than the 2x4 v6 5spd.
