Just wanted to say hello. I just picked up a 2017 SR 2.7L 4x4 5 speed taco with convenience package. After looking at used trucks for over 5 months and almost buying a 2017 Subaru Forester 6spd twice and a couple ford rangers it came down to this. It is incredibly frustrating finding a used manual transmission truck in the north east. I was looking at 1gen Tacomas and Ford Rangers (my first truck love). Most were either beat to crap, rusted out or marked up by 3-5k. No dealers want to budge on their ridiculous pricing on used trucks.

So I picked up the brand new Taco under invoice. V6 would be nice but it was almost $7k more for the sport which had to be special order. I was also pleasantly surprised that the 2017 SR has really nice interior, painted frame and truck bed for a "base" model. I also like how the convenience package gives you paint match bumpers. Truck looks pretty good to be honest.

First mods will be weathertech floormats, mud flaps and have to find smallish running boards. If you have any recommendations please let me know. I also have to weld up some kind of a kayak rack for the bed. Once I kill these tires maybe new wheels or paint.

As for the "2.7 is under powered" question. I come from a VW diesel TDI engine which has 240lb of instant torque available from 1500-2500 rpm. It is quite an adjustment especially in a truck. I don't tow anything ever but I do need the bed for home depot runs, motorcycle or equipment on the weekends. I need the 4x4 for winter commuting and getting into some fishing/camping spots. You have to wind up the 2.7 to get the truck going quickly and 3rd gear feels pretty good. Highway speeds are fine at 75-80, doesn't feel like the engine is overworking. Clutch grabs a little high, I would like it to be more towards the middle but it is still breaking in. I hope there is an adjustment rod on the master cylinder. I think I am going to be really happy with this truck. They only knock I have for it is, I wish it was a little smaller similar to the 1gen or Ranger.

    See ya guys around!
