Seeing that vehicles are becoming more and more subject to restrictions by the government, even if I don't need it I am thinking to buy a new Tacoma for the years to come. The problem is that I only drive manual vehicles and I cannot find any in inventory in my state... any advice?

Try previously owned. Talk to a dealer about ordering a manual (if you’re not in a hurry).

Yeah I am not in a rush, I might have to try the order route. Wish me luck, of course the dealer is not going to love this option I suppose...

Where are you located, and are you willing to travel to get one?

Welcome to TW! Look out of state, I bought my last 2 Tacoma’s out of state. I located them on Car Gurus.

I am certainly willing to travel; when I bought my Toyota FJ Cruiser in 2008 I took a plane, a train and a bus to get to the dealer that had it. In fact it was a lot of fun and I wouldn't mind doing that again now that I think about it. I am in the California Bay Area

I'll look up that website thanks.

Some more info: wifey (the class-A driver in the family) insists on the lime green color. One more variable to consider... If I order it, will they "make" one at this point before the next generation Tacoma arrives?

The thing is, you can't "order" from Toyota. They give dealerships allocations and they dealers can pick some general options.

If you'll travel and you have specific wants/needs on the truck I would suggest you ask @Squatting Pigeon to point you toward the same dealer he pointed me to when I got my truck. Fantastic dealership, but @Squatting Pigeon knows the guy personally and whether or not it's ok to load him up with referrals.

I read about this, but I guess they can still do some shenanigans to obtain a vehicle according to a customer's desire? I have found a couple of manuals thanks to cargurus (that has a checkbox filter for the transmission type, unlike Toyota.com) but they are "sale pending"

Should I just PM this user?
Damn the Solar Octane looks pretty good too, I see it's only available on the TRD Pro...

Buy an automatic. This isn't the 1950's anymore. In a truck, combined with modern engines, a manual is a huge disadvantage. Manuals still have a place in sports cars that don't need low end torque to move loads. Old school truck engines got torque at 2000-2500 rpm. A 3rd gen Tacoma needs 4600 rpm and 2nd gens 3600. The torque converter in an automatic gives you the low-speed power to move loads that can't be done with a manual in modern trucks If you need a truck to move and haul loads an automatic does everything better. And has for years.

They stopped putting manuals in buses, and medium size delivery trucks over 40 years ago. They haven't put a manual in a 1/2 ton, 3/4 or 1 ton truck in years and those are meant to pull serious loads. Even newer 18 wheelers have been using automatics for years.

About the only vehicles that still have manuals are a handful of Tacoma's and Wranglers for the guys who use them at toys.

You can PM him, but that tag should get his attention as well. I'll poke him over on Tundras to make sure he knows about it.
