    Hello all,

Awesome to see a place like this, I’m looking to get into a Tacoma and wanted to ask what the best model year and trim on a 4x4 drivetrain would be and what to look for. I’m in the SE btw.

    thank you.

    Like, so many.
That's a very subjective question lol
I think 17-19 are the sweet spot for 3rd gens. Are you looking for an older truck?

Hello all, thanks got the warm welcome and replies.

yeah, I’m really new at this, still researching and looking for good deal, my budget is roughly $20k with a $10k down payment and looking to finance the other $10k. Pending in the truck I can go a bit more. , the 3rd Gen are beautiful but I’m not opposed to a 1st or 2nd so long as they’re in good condition and can offer some good longevity and use.

I paid Alaska premium (22,500) for my 2015 one year ago. So you are in the ballpark for a late 2nd gen with low miles for 20k.

Thanks, I thought I’d get flamed for a sec, for being too low on funds and high on expectations.

I should mention that my current car is very nicely modded 2007 STi, I’d like to be to tow if necessary, I have been recklessly eyeballing the TRD OFF ROAD trim, are there better trim/option combinations financially speaking or is the TRD 4x4 just a better platform, I like 6k towing and short flat bed with cab.

Love me a hawk eye!! Pics of STI please!

I would go second gen. In your price range for sure. I still think they are the best looking Tacoma.

Hmm seeming as younot sure. I'd say some more research is needed
Do I buy with what I have or save a little longer and go for perhaps something else as i do more research?

    For sure,

min really liking what I’m finding on 2nd gens, especially late models and the TRD 4x4 seems the way to go for me,

    Hello Everyone,

    quick question, I’ve been looking at a 2017 SR5 with 4x4 and the 3.5L V6.
short bed 5’ and crew cab.

how far off the mark is this from a TRD OFF ROAD Spec ?

I know the TRD has bilstein shocks, locking rear diff and LED projector head lights with a towing cap of 6.5k (I believe)

im sure over time I can upgrade the shocks to something better than the oem bilstein on the TRD and I’m sure I can do alike with the headlights.

If the SR5 is 4x4 it should have the same diff as the TRD, right ?
