Hello everyone I’m Justin feels great to be here. So I have a 2004 Toyota Tacoma that has 247,000 miles on it my granddad actually bought it brand new with 14 miles on it and gave it to me a few years back and it’s something that I’m very proud of. Currently in the process of building my taco and was wanting to get some thoughts and opinions on what you think and what I should do next.

Welcome to Tacoma World :hattip: and congratulations on the almost 1/4 million mile truck!

Granddad must have taken good care of the truck, keep it up and maybe you can put the same miles on it.

    @george3

Frame is good I’m originally from Virginia but I live in South Carolina now. So the truck has seen some snow. Mechanically the only things I’ve done to it is replaced my starter, ignition coils, spark plugs, and spark plug wires. It does have a small leak in the valve cover gasket which I don’t think I want to do myself but other then that everything is original on the truck.

That is super cool, amazing you got it from your grandad. I’d love to have an heirloom truck like that. Welcome to TW!

That's a pretty straight forward task. Your 'building' will be limited to minor items or paying others until you're ready to delve into DIY work. And paying others for quality work is not budget friendly for most of us.

You ask what you should do next, but don't tell us how you use the truck or what you are trying to accomplish. So anything 'build' wise is pretty much guessing.

*I* would remove the bedliner if it has one, prep the inside of the bed and finish it with something like Monstaliner.

Learn how to do routine maintenance, including all fluids, how to detail underhood, door jambs, interior, etc, as well as the paint. Learn how to drive it and realize what the limitations of both the vehicle and the driver are.

90% of the Tacomas out there will do 40-50% more than their owners ask of them, and often a simple set of tires will take them even further (w/o spiffy wheels, lifts, etc)

It's a great piece of reliable transportation that is simpler to work on that any new vehicle. Enjoy it and keep it rolling.

    Welcome.

yeah I was meaning to add all that but I got busy with my kids hahaha.

    So far:

    • 6 inch rough country lift
    • 20x14 Fuel rims (I don’t remember the exact name on 33s)
    • 5% tint all around with 35% on windshield
    • Spray in bedliner(done by my granddad)
    • The truck does have a brand new paint job on it
    • 4 Rockford 6.5” marine speakers in bed with custom box I made for them
    • 2 pa speakers under the bed of truck
    • A 12 inch kicker sub
    • The lime green badges on the bed I ordered to kind of give it a different look to it plus it was my mom’s favorite color

What I would like to do in the future I want to get rims with more of an offset to them because I love the aggressive look on a taco with a wide tire. I’m in the works with a good friend of mine that is making me a custom lift for the truck somewhere in the 8 to 9 inch range. He does custom lifts so he’s actually doing a favor for me lol. I would like to run possibly 22 inch rims on 35s I don’t want to go too big because I don’t want it looking like a matchbox truck. I’m not an overlander kind of guy I’m more of a show guy but I would really love to make this thing spotless and maybe put it in shows. I live in myrtle beach so I’d love to see a first gen Tacoma in a show down here.

this is kind of the theme I’d like to go with I use to hunt with my granddad when I was young so I think like an orange camo theme with the interior. That orange and black painted lift. But I don’t want to over do it
