I am in the market for a older tacoma (96-00) that I can get for a good price. I have been searching craigslist for a while and think I might have found one so I wanted to get an opionion on it from some actual owners. It is a 96 5 speed 4wd extended cab with 176,000 miles. The owners is asking 5K but the AC does not work. I have been talking with him for a few weeks (yes weeks) and he is down to 4,200. I know I can get him to come down a bit more but I am worried abou the AC. I have asked around and if it is the AC compressor it will cost around 1K to fix. Is this something I can do myself with a bit of help?

    Any thoughts on the price?

    Thanks!

Welcome to TW!!! Unless you do a/c work your not going to have the equipment to install it. You could probably mount everything up but to charge a new system I'm sure your going to have to pull a vacuum on the line. Not something you want to be messing with if you don't know what your doing. Well unless you have another 1k to spend. I'd let a pro take care of it for you.

Yea I will more than likely get someone to do the work. You think the $4,200 is a good price? All the other 96's I can find are around $5,500. I think if I give him 4k in cash he would take it.
