ran out to Moab for a quick day trip and ran my favorite - hells revenge. Solo trip so nothing crazy. Although up hells gate with no backup rig or spotter likely wasn’t the best choice. Slid over off the wall halfway up and with no locker meant I had to wiggle around a little to get the tires to bite. Either way, great trip as always. Can’t wait to get back.

Even got to beat up my hitch skid I made. Worked like a charm!

Why didn’t you just wait at the starting point and jump in with a group?

Nice pics though man! Did you bypass or beef your way up the crux of the route?

I wanted to wheel solo on this run. If not one other. Out here again too. Ran the trail just fine. Even harder stuff this go around as well.

What are your thoughts on the hitch skid? Well worth having along? I have thought of getting the one made by Skidmark4x4. The one on your truck looks to be out of the way and relatively low profile.

I love it. Especially in Moab. Yes you’ll hit it more than if you had nothing. However it keeps the backend off of stuff and slides instead of catching. I made it to sit as tight as possible so it wouldn’t catch as much. A lot are made to fit loose and easy, that’s why I started to build it.

i’m going to moab for the first time later this month, without a hitch skid like this will my bumper be in danger or will i just grind the hitch at bit with no body damage to the actual rear bumper?

Depends on the trails you run. But your likelihood of dragging the bumper caps, especially on the corners is pretty high.

I used to leave this in my hitch while offroad with no shackle, and I always drug it. That was exactly my plan though because I'd rather drag this than anything else. Also doubles as a safe recovery point. Would definitely recommend.

You can see at the end of this shitty video how hard I drag it. It works great.

hells revenge specifically? with the D-ring hitch suggested above will i be out of danger from damaging my bumper.

are you able to avoid any obstacles on hells revenge, as in an alternate route? from all the vids I've been watching i don't want to try some of the obstacles seeing how green i am but i do want to check out the course and do some of it.

At that time no. Ground clearance for hells revenge is more than adequate. Has some I am testing on it currently. Second version being designed.

Hahaha. No the jalapeño is gone. It traded hands a few times and new owner is doing a killer job on redoing it the way it needed to be done. The taco has my focus right now but looking for my next build for sure.

You’re definitely going to drag ass on HR. You can get around pretty much any of the harder stuff (insert air quotes here) but there are a few climbs and dips, specifically as the trail nears the hot tubs that the length and overhang on the truck will all but force you to drag.
The d ring mount above will save you some but it may hang you up as well since it’s not a smooth edge to slide on.
    HTH.

The d ring holder shouldn’t hang him up. I’ve drug it A LOT with no issues. Part of it may be that the end is rounded.

I guess I looked at it wrong I thought it was a cornered edge. Yeah rounded should work great.
