I would go with the Shoei. Have you considered SparX helmets? They are light and affordable. Comes with two faceshields and earplugs.

Okie dokie. Do you have an oval shaped head or more of a round head? Shoei usually fits people with round heads better and Arai is made more for people with an oval head.

No problem if you need a Large, but I used to fit helmets for people when I worked at a motorcycle dealership. Arai's fit very tight at first but break in a lot! When you are sizing your helmet pretend like you are chewing a piece of gum and you want to slightly bite the inside of your cheeks when it is new, then when it breaks in it will fit perfectly snug. Good luck on the helmet search! Also I will HIGHLY recommend Shoei or Arai.

I have a round head... Shoei fit very well... Arais were super tight, actually M size I couldn't even get on my head

I've always heard that ARAI and Shoei were the best helmets... but was wondering the quality of Scorpions and ICONs. I currently have an HJC helmet and it is loud, whistles, and floats when riding on the freeway

hey man my advice is go to a store find the model/size you want and buy it online. I bought my exo 750 for 155 online with a free smoke visor. closest I could find it in a store was 225

Scorpion helmets are pretty good, especially their upper end models, definitely better than Icon IMO. But I would only wear and Arai or Shoei myself.

I wish they'd let me take em for a ride... fit really isn't that a big a deal for me (most helmets, except Arai fit my round head) What I want is performance on the road.

Light, good aerodynamics, and not too noisy... well and safety of course.

Most stores wont return a helmet after it has left the store to ensure that it has never been dropped. Even if it was never used, it could have been dropped. So once you pick your helmet you better like it! :)

    - You'll be happy with a Shoei! Don't get too high end of a helmet because they tend to let more air in to give better ventilation, which leads to a louder helmet.

He's dead on. The X12 is not a particulary quiet helmet. However, it's a different kind of noisy from a lower-end helmet. HJC-level helmets tend to make their own noise. Helmets like the X12 just don't block as much noise from getting to you.

I have never used an RF-series, but everyone I know who has owned one, starting with the RF800, talked about how quiet and confortable it is.

If Shoei is the direction you're thinking about, I will also add that their visor system is awesome. And with the RF-series, you can change your check pads to adjust size, as well as remove them to wash them.

If memory serves me correct, the better model Scorpions have removable liners and cheek pads, but I don't think you can buy them sized different.

One more thing, I'm not trying to push Arai, but each one of their models uses a different head form and they all fit different. I own three different Corsairs, they all fit slightly different and the newest one, a corsair five, doesn't even share a visor with the other two. BTW, it's not a quality thing, one was made 10 years ago, another five year ago and the newest one was made less than a year ago. So, if you have a stocking dealer near you try them all out.

However, helmets with visor plates like Arai and Suomy with tend to be a bit noisy compared to helmets without, like HJC and Shoei. FYI, the HJC visor makes noise at the seal.

Smart decision! You won't be sorry! I've had 4 of them and they've all been great, even when wearing them all day.

scorpion is a pretty solid choice for the money (best bang for the buck, in my opinion). my first helmet was an exo-700. i now have an arai profile riptide silver.

arai's actually have 3 different inner head shapes. the models range from round to intermediate-oval to long-oval. my head is a long-oval so the "profile" model fits great! at the shoei/suomy/arai level, you're really starting to pay more for fit/finish than safety.

i love my arai, though, and i would purchase it again in a heartbeat.
