    hey guys new here'

i have a dilemma, that i would like to get cleared up so i can continue to do some more climbing without anymore worries, anyways, i have owned yota's since 1985, yup do the math i'm an old fart, anyways i'm no engineer so pardon my ignorance, but here's the story; i was in idaho this last fall i was climbing a real steep hill; like i said i am no engineer so i can't tell you the degrees of the angle, probably the steepest i have even attempted due to the fact all the other yota's i ever owned were 4cyl, so bout midway up the hill, the motor started a slight knocking sound i thought it was my fan hitting the shroud but then it started smoking real bad, the smoke was coming from the engine compartment and underneath as if oil was pouring out onto the mufflers but not directly out the tail pipes, so i gunned it to get to the top and when i did the smoke cleared up n motor went back to normal no knocking sound, so i assume in that steep angle there is a breather port where oil can spill out, but where from the motor or the tranny...? like i said, i have owned yota's for ever n never had this happen before; help lol any suggestions would be appreciated oh n i did ask the dealership n they had no idea?

Sounds like you were at such a steep angle that all the oil from the pan drained into the engine.

    Never encountered that before.

Since you have an '05 (a 2nd gen), you might try posting in the 2nd gen forum. That may be a more common issue with the newer generation trucks...
