i just bought a set of takeoffs from a 2018 TRD. Stock 265/70-16.
I just purchased my truck a few weeks back and the previous owner had a set of 265/70-17s on with stock Tacoma rims....
I took it to my local shop and left it for them to swap the tire rims while installing my TPMS sensors...the guy just called and said they won’t fit because the front calipers are hitting the inside of the rim!!????
    Any ideas?
I was not expecting any problems just swapping out Tacoma rims!
Does this mean that the previous owner must have put different type of calipers on?

Is it the wheel weights that are hitting? Many of these trucks come with 16" rims so i call incompetence on this one.

Are the 16 or 17" rims, you may need a spacer. Very possible of Brake upgrade by previous owner

That is what I am wondering. If it had to be a brake upgrade. Can someone tell me any other Eason stock 16” rims would not fit a second gen Tacoma?

Not sure. I am going to check it out in morning. The guy told me on phone that edge of caliper is hitting the rim and front tires will not move. Said I would need spacers which I do NOT want to do....

Spacers make those wheels stick out and look all badass though!!!! For real though this is kinda odd... i am interested to hear how this all plays out.

unless front brakes have been modified... 3rd gen rims will fit all 2nd gen 6 lug trucks... the entire front suspension is essentially identical 3rd and 2nd gen

You could get the smallest spacer . I think they make 1/2 inch . You probably wouldn’t even notice them after a week

There is an OEM type upgrade out there where guys will install 4Runner brakes on their Tacoma’s. If I’m not mistaken this will require a minimum of a 17” wheel. If the brakes are OEM looking this is what it might have. If that’s the case worth keeping it and possibly figuring out something different for the wheels

Turns out he had replaced the drivers side caliper...that was the one that was hitting....replaced it with an OEM one and good to go!

Interesting. Aftermarket part must have had just a little different casting.
