Hey guys, my Tacoma had been running totally fine. No issues, serviced about a month ago. This morning I came out, pushed the ignition, the engine initially attempted to turn over for like a fraction of a second (didn’t feel like it even made it through a full attempt) before the starter started clicking like a machine gun and then all this in the video started happening. In the video you can continue to hear the starter clicking (though much slower now) and the vehicle wouldn’t turn off for about 5 minutes but continued to do this wild behavior. I had to run quickly as I needed to be somewhere so I had zero investigation time before we hopped in the girlfriend’s car and left. Anyone ever seen something like this or have any ideas?

I hope the forum allows me to link a video like this to my google drive upload. Please let me know if it can’t be seen. And if it can’t an idea about how to put it somewhere that can be seen from this forum.

    Thanks!

Sounds like a battery issue , if it’s the original from 21 , it may be done , 4 years on a modern vehicle isn’t uncommon

Here's my $20 bill on it being a bad battery..

..low voltage can mess with the ECU and cause sensors to not send correct signals and all sorts of weird stuff.

Very first thing to do is go buy a new battery and take this one in for the core charge.

I'm in for $10 on the battery.

Don't be a 1 post and done. Tell us the fix and make us feel good.

Tip. When you install your new battery, connect the hot 1st, then the ground.

Finally got to it, you all were right. The battery didn’t show any signs leading up to today but turns out it was totally shot. Glad it wasn’t some major electrical issue. Thanks all!

My OG battery lasted a mere 2.5 yrs.

But yeah Toyota deserves $10k or more in higher prices on the Gen4s

    :jpow:

My 2nd battery, a Champion has already outlived the OG OEM.

I still have factory battery 5 1/2 years so far. My trick is after I back into the garage, as I walk around the front to go in the house I connect the NOCO battery tender to the dongle hanging out my grill.

I have noticed that in the past batteries would slowly go bad and show signs of going bad. But it seems now batteries seem to just drop dead overnight. Happened to me on my other vehicle recently, everything was just fine with absolutely no signs of a battery going bad and then the next morning the battery was stone dead with two dead cells.
