help! 285/70/17 BFG on OEM 17" wheels & coil 2.75" lift

need advice quick i have a guy selling some almost new BFG 285/70/17 MT for a steel, i have a 2.75" coil lift, OEM UCA's and OEM 17 TRD wheels, anyone know how bad they will rub? my main concern is rubbing on the UCA?

i cant have much rubbing i need wheel travel, any quick advice very much appreciated he only wants $500!

If your worried about rubbing just get some wheel spacers. Thats only a couple hundred bucks so I would go that route especially with that good deal on those tires!

 

well.. i bought 'em! hope they fit if not anyone need tires, LOL!

 

They'll work with wheel spacers as mentioned. Be prepared to trim some plastic, too.

 

what size spacers do i need? 1"? i would like to keep spacers to a minimum

just wondering from peeps who run the same, whats the gas mileage drop? right now i get about 15mpg with oem, i do floor it sometimes, lol, so i know it could be better. but oem run about 40lbs each i think? these would be be closer to 60lbs. not a deal breaker for sure, just wondering.

yes run wheel spacers, those are awesome tires, dont sell them when you can run them with spacers. (as long as the tire set was a good deal of course)

 

This is my question as well. I am running 1.25" spidertrax and have a 3" lift. Some have told me that I can, others that I can't. I also have LR UCA's..... I guess that I will just have to try it out when tue time comes. Keep us updated.

 

i paid $500, only have a couple thousand miles on them, look almost new. so i think good deal. so we will see how it goes

Get Spidertrax spacers. They are 1.25" but thats what most people run and have no UCA rubbing issues.

 

I'm planning on getting 285s with 18 in. Rim. If I get 1.5" spacers, will they fit with a 3 in. Lift, I know I'll have to trim plastic.

 

I have a 3" lift with LR UCA's and no spacers and have no rubbing issues with 285/75/16's. Had the cab mount chop done and trimmed some plastic and have no problems.

 

I ran this setup on my stock O/R wheels, 16" with 5.5 bs and they sat fairly close to the UCA's. I could fit my finger in between the tire and the UCA. I eventually went with a wheel with 4.5" bs cause I plan to run maxtrac spindles at some point.

 

If you get the right sized wheels you wont need wheel spacers. Try and get it in 4.5" backspacing with a -12mm offset. I have 18"s with 285's with those specs and I just needed to do a little trimming up front and take off the front mud guards.

 

Exactly. But if you get spacers, go with Spidertrax. Based off of members who run them, they are the best spacers to get. I don't know much about them but it's probably because they're hubcentric whereas others are lud centric I think.

 

I ran 1" Bora spacers for a while with my stock Sport wheels (5.5" bs) & 285/70-17 tires. This is the minimum you need to clear the UCAs. Btw Bora spacers are an awesome product as well. As others have said, 4.5 bs on any wheel is the minimum with wider tires on our trucks.

I installed LR UCAs and rolled the upper ball joints forward and still got a factory rec. caster adjustment. Doing this, moved my wheel center forward about 1.25" and kept my 285 tires away from the cab mount at full lock/stuff.

With 285s, any less then 4.5" bs and more width than an 8" wheel on any combo, can cause cab mount rubbing.

There is a thread on here that details this geometry setup. I'll find it for you and post a link to it.

 

with aftermarket UCAs I'm not sure. I run the same tire in a 285/75/16 with 1.25 spidertrax and stock wheels and UCAs. Had the same setup with 1 inch spacers and no issues there

 

Too much backspacing, you'll rub on the UCA. Not enough backspace or too wide of a wheel, you'll rub on the pinch weld and cab mount. So you need to plan it all out and select carefully. Cutting & trimming isn't a big deal though. It just depends on what you want to do. Or don't want to do. In my case, I was able to setup my front end with no trimming in the rear of my wheel well. And instead of hacking up the front of the wheel well liners, I was able to shove them forward and clear my tires that way.

Very old thread I know, but I have a 2016 Taco that I currently have a 3" lift on. I plan on running BFG K02 285/70/17's, is that similar to what you ran? I would prefer to use a 1" spacer over a 1.25" if possible.
