Hey guys & gals! So, my boyfriend has a 2011 Tacoma 2WD. He's in basic training right now, so I wanted to surprise him when he got home. However, ran into some problems.

Last year, he had a 3" suspension lift put on. He added bigger tires with no problem. I went to one of our local tire/rim dealers that's been in business for over 20 years. We went with the same tire size that was on the truck, but with a 17" rim. Running 265/70's on it. Dealer said it would be no problem to run them. Of course, I was good with that because I don't know jack about vehicles except the minor stuff. So got them on there and found out there is a scrub because for some odd reason, Toyota put a hump in the front wheel wells right behind the tire. So now here is my question. What else can I do, besides cutting out or beating the area with a rubber mallet? The place that put the suspension kit on it says that it will cost me $1300 for a body lift kit installed because of the labor involved. I told him heck no! Do you guys have any suggestions?

So just go in and cut the black box out in that hump and put some new well liners on it? Do I need to go in and cover it up with anything to prevent junk from getting in that area?

Then probably a 5-lug. My work truck is a 5-lug and it would still look small even after a 2-3" lift.

Not sure about the 5 luger, but if you do want to go with BL its surprisingly easy. Only took me an afternoon and its much easier to install than suspension is. But your going to have to do some research, not sure how different the 5 lugs are compared to the trd or

    It is a 5 lug.

Long story, he went to get a 3" body lift on it last year. They quoted him $500 for parts and installation. Well, what i believe happened is they realized it was gonna be more difficult to install than they thought so they put a suspension lift on instead. We actually were not told they did this until just yesterday. I argued until I was blue in the face that there was a body lift and not a suspension lift on it. The manager talked to me and said he remembered the incident and told me it was the same price for both last year and did a suspension lift because it would be a better ride. Well, why do you quote me damn near $1500 to do a body lift this year? Because they misquoted and didn't want to do a job for practically nothing. And yes, it is a 3" lift. I just seen the same truck all factory and our truck sits significantly higher than stock.

FYI the only way a tire changes in overall size between wheel diameters, is if you're running the same size tire on each. For example:

    265/70/16 and 265/70/17 = 17" tire will be taller
    265/75/16 and 265/70/17 = same size tire

It's is a -10 offset. They protrude some, but the only place it is scrubbing is where the black box and is. Other than that, it drives good. I put long bar steps on it yesterday. I will get yall a closer up to date pic when I get home. I'm sorry if I sound dumb when it comes to this stuff, but I try to do more research before I do anything.

would wheel spacers remedy this? or would they simply move the rub to a new location?

Simple answer is if your running 265/70/16 now and went up to a 17" wheel get some 265/65/17 and you're good to go.
Both are 30.6" tall 10.4" wide

I cant afford to buy new tires again. I just forked out $$ for those new tires. I guess I could call them and tell them the problem. I've only put about 100 miles on them. See if they will exchange.

If they're a reputable business at all they'll exchange. Especially with you're whole lift experience. Not to mention not selling you the proper size or even suggesting to go to a 265/65/17
