What’s going on guys. I’m new to TW. Bought my taco about 3 months ago. And I’m looking to start getting out. I have no clue where to start. I’ve been researching and researching. Some of it makes since. Others don’t. I was looking into getting a 2in leveling kit but got told not to do it. To just save the money and “do it right” balling on a budget for now due to a wedding. But what the wifey don’t know won’t hurt . Like I said. I’m just looking for the right place to start. I want to get the truck up. And get some rims and tires. But I don’t want any cutting. So where do I start?

Find a set of wheels you want and the tires to match. From there you will know how much lift you will need. Preferably, dont use blocks. Pay the money for a good suspension, you wont regret it.

I alway say stuff cost way less then it actually does. I have a truck parts savings and a have a secret jar that I stash cash in. No harm no foul

Blocks are fine for most people, don’t fall the tools on here saying they’re trash.

People that suggest buying a good suspension are suddenly tools. Lol

When they tell people to spend hundreds or thousands of dollars things they don’t really need.

    Yes

Apparently you are offended by suggestions. “Preferably” is a preference. I understand OP is looking for a cheap work around, but hes already going to spend over a grand just in wheels and tires. For a few hundred more, you can get a real suspension upgrade rather than blocks.

I recommend getting out and using the truck to help figure out how you will use it and what mods you will benefit from. I wouldn't go crazy throwing money around until you figure out what you need. There will be time for throwing money around later...

    EDIT: Welcome to The Forum!

Or you can save that couple hundred and put it towards something you’ll actually use.

I think @Hobbs is spot on, people need to use their shit before spending money unnecessarily. Why spend thousands on kings when a spacer will do you fine.

I would have suggested Bilsteins as a good starting point. But I agree.

I’ve been seeing the adjustable Bilstein 5100s are a good place to start or even some sort of coil over and some sort of aftermarket leaf pack. Or even an AAL? Any suggestions on brands?

Depends on your budget. Coil overs will cost quite a bit more. Whats the intended use for your truck?

Damn, y'all have to hide this shit from your wife? That sucks.

Get better tires and go out and see what else you may need

I was wondering if I was the only one that has an understanding wife. I tend to spend more money on motorcycles than the truck, but she is fine with it. Two weeks ago I was researching another bike, and tonight she asked when I was getting it.

Get out and drive it stock. These trucks are very capable stock.. I did, and realized that instead of a lift, I wanted better tires and sliders/ skid plates. Trails get rocky here around me, and have put my skids to use the first time I went out with them installed. Go out with a group who can help you and guide you/ spot you. Start on easy trails and work your way up. Don't lift it because you think you need it. If you do wheel it, I would suggest reading up on spacer lifts.. If you come down hard, you may not engage the bump stops.. The strut will bottom out and have seen damage done to the lower shaft. I don't have personal experience with them, so take my opinion as just that, but do your own research and see what works best for you. I now am starting to get more serious about a lift myself, and I am sure I will be researching it to death!
Good luck, and get out there while it is stock. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. These trucks are like little billy goats.

I learned early on the hard way never try to hide anything from your wife. She WILL find out in the long run and then it'll be a whole lot worse.

Easier to ask for forgiveness than permission. But theres a window of time where that becomes void and you’re a dead man.
