I knew about the 5 speed. Interesting! Did they bring the locker back in the 4th gen?

Yes, for 2 years. 2008 and 2009 had a Trail Edition 4th gen with a rear locker. They are super super rare though.

Alright guys. I could use your guys help ASAP!!

I checked out 2 4runners last night. The green one and desert dune one. Green one was trashed. DD one looked decent. It had been in an accident but not totaled so I check it out pretty good. Rear frame was smashed in and booger welded. I told him no that I wasn't interested, why I wasn't and left. On our way home we were looking and this was posted again. It was posted about 2 weeks ago and never saw it again.

    1999 Toyota Tacoma
    4X4
    3.4. V6
    5 speed manual
    Rear differential locker
    New timing belt
    New radiator
    New belts & hoses
    New clutch
    Off road tires & wheels
    Leveling kit
    Kenwood stereo with blue tooth
    Power windows & locks
    Ice cold A/C
Paint faded on roof & hood
Tear in drivers seat / has seat covers
    Bed is rhino lined

It also has 224k miles. Clutch is great. Shifts easily, no grinding/force needed to shift/binding at all. Floats gears easily unlike my '00. Engine is a lot.. And I mean A LOT better than the '00. Holy shit I didn't know these things had some power. Took it up to 5500 Rpms a few times. Sounds good, no knocking/clicking.

It does need ball joints replaced, cvs replaced, and there is a leak from the transfer case/transmission. It doesn't seem to be huge as there wasn't puddles but it is wet on the tranny. There is also a pretty big hole in the back of the carpet behind the passenger seat. He didn't seem to know of it.

Belts and hoses look new, radiator looks recently new(few years) and clutch feels great.

Hes asking $7k for it. I told him KBB and nada had it between 5700 and 6400. I got him down to 5800 after he said last night hes pretty firm at 7k :)rofl:)

    What do you guys think??

What size tires? What type/amount for the level kit?

Shift into and out of 4x4 and Low Range? Longer engage/disengage?

Looks good and like you know the issues. I dig the color and since you talked him down you have some room to address the issues right away.

Did you drive it long enough to heat up the trans to see if the syncros were good?

31/10.5/15. I can sell those tires and put my atIIs on the rims. Rims look kinda nice. It's a spacer leveling kit. Looks good until I can lift it. Rides smooth besides those tires. They're knobby and howl. Haha. It's weird. Never realized how nice the atIIs are.

The truck ran while I checked it over. Then I drove it. Trans temp gauge is broke. Pretty typical. It was running for probably 10 minutes, drove for 10 then sat for 5 or so.

The 4x4 went in easy. I wasn't sure at first cuz it doest have a light. But I check the front drive shaft. Wasn't moving when in 4x. Low went it right away to. Locker engaged instantly. The guy I guess has had it for 5 years and it's his ck lake pleasant vehicle. Only put on 5k miles I guess. I'm going to car fax it before I pay.

That's good on the locker, they tend to stick if not used much.

The tires look off in those potato photos compared to the 33/10.5/15s I had. Get your good one's on there and use that sucker.

It isn't a 4Runner but it looks nice! $5800 is a good deal, I wonder how much I can buff the paint out.
