First off, I would like to say hello to everyone :)I'm a newbie here and this is the first I am posting a thread. I need help/advice on wheels and tires.

I have a 1998 Tacoma 4WD, and I am really interested on the Rockcrawler wheels type. I know that there are several kinds of brands that I can choose from. But I have called several places and they told me that 15inch wheels does not fit. I have to get at least 17"

I have seen 15" RC wheels on a Tacoma. But the owner shaved down the calipers. Is that safe?

what would the recommended size of tires should I get for these sizes, 15" and 16" without lifting the truck and of course I don't want the tires to rub against the fenders.

    Thank you for your time,
    Rome

the biggest tires should be around a 31x10.5 or maybe a 265/75/16 . . . i had a '94 4x4 (pre-Tacoma) with 31's with minimal rubbing . . . shaving down the calipers, wheel spacers, etc. are not the best ways to get a tire/wheel to fit as they can effect the safety of the vehicle . . . i was in the same boat as you are with trying to figure out wheels/tires for my '05 . . . there are tons of friendly people on this board who will help you narrow things down . . . also call up Wheeler's Off-Road . . . They have great info also . . .

The places you are calling which are saying a 15" wont fit aren't considering the year of your Tacoma, they are giving you info for the 2nd gens 05-09 V6 models. It has been a pretty common issue thats been brought up on these forums. I believe (dont hold me to it though ;)) that you can go with a 15" or 16" just fine.

Alot of us with 2nd gens get told we can't fit aftermarket 16" rims, but some fit just fine.

If you don't get more answers in this thread, try browsing the 1st gen area http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/1st-gen-tacomas/ .

Oh that's weird...I called wheelers offroad and several places. They all referred to the ProComp 8069 15" would be the best wheels that would fit first gens. I will check out 1st gen taco link.

    Thank you!!
