Wow. This might be the most polite "use search" post ever seen. What a gentleman Smitty is...

I did in fact use the search. I browsed through the results. Yes there are plenty of posts about sliders, but in particular I'm looking for one's and extend out a bit further to protect my truck from door dings. Obviously height of door and curve of door and whatnot make a difference, but since I'm going to get sliders anyways, I figured I'd start a thread specifically for one's that could serve both purposes.

Go to a Tacoma meet and check out other tacomas. You might see a couple rock sliders in person. That could help you get an idea how much it stick out.

I'm looking for one that functions as a step and protect my rocker panels.

I'm not really into the look of kickouts and don't think I need them.

There's a lot of different styles and so far, which seems to be your favorite?

I really like the x-wing sliders from @JDEMELLO but I don't see them available for the 3rd gens. Solid looking build with enough width out to be used as a step/door dinger barrier.

Seems that @Mobtown Offroad has quite the following as well, although I'm not sure how well their product fits my needs (from the pictures I have seen).

I'm sure both would be quality products.

I can't believe how awesome the Apex top of the line ones with the kickouts look. I had mine powder coated factory Toyota texture finish. And they're my defense against door dings and useful for hopping in cab or bed of truck. Honestly I hear good things about all the brands, so pick what you like.

Are those straight bolt on? I thought some drilling was required.

What y'all forgetting is the wait time. How long for each manufacturer?

Bolt-on, but YES, all "Bolt-on" require drilling holes in the frame rails to "bolt" them on. There's not enough factory holes to satisfactorily get it done otherwise.

I'm not horribly concerned with wait time if it means getting what I want

Good point. AllPro had mine in 1 week - shipping time. They come on a triple-long pallet and are heavy as f.

It looks like something from cbi advertise no drill, and I hear good things about their product. Still no doubt that extra drilling will add way more strength.

I like your setup, very nice look to them.

For OP, most of the pictures here dont help-- they appear to show a slider that barely sticks out at all from the body or is too curved up to be of use as ding protectors. What would be a better indicator is how wide the sliders are from the where it bolts to the frame to the edge measured flat. That way OP can gauge which slider are the "widest".

I mentioned with my picture that they pretty much all save you from door dings against everything but a truck with a significantly higher lift than yours. I've run sliders for years.

Mobtown is a true bolt-on slider (no drilling at all). The design of their sliders require no drilling and can hold the entire side of the truck with a highlift. It's why I'm leaning heavily to buying a Mobtown slider. Their structural design is quite unique and you can tell a lot of engineering and research went in to their sliders.
