Frozen? Several here suggest hammering (try first with a mallet or hammer with wood block) on brake drum, and also flex the brake cable with hands near rear wheels.

Good luck, keep warm and Happy New Year.

I am so pissed, there is a recall on 2016 2017 Tacomas for this problem, why I wasn't made aware of that I don't know, its a differential problem and the wheel can lock up while driving, my wife could've been in an accident, this dealership is going to hear it I guarantee you that

    Look before you jump.

The recall is for specfic vins. You may or may not be included.

The recall uses panic language, but the real deal is a leaky gasket and under torqued bolts. If your diff housing is dry you certainly haven't lost your fluid. You can pull your fill plug to check if it makes you feel better.

You'd be the first around here to have an 'actual' failure.

I'm guessing the ebrake is stuck for some reason.

If you have the tools & time, pull off the wheel and drum (using bolts) on that side, cycle the parking brake a few times then reinstall everything. Worked for me in an emergency where I could not get to the dealer.

    Hasn’t happened since fortunately!

The "frozen" rear drum is not necessarily related to below freezing temps.

Was the truck exposed to water before you parked it?

Might be a relatively easy fix to get it unstuck.

    Good luck.

No probs my 2nd gen used to to this during winter time for the first couple years... had toyota tear everything apart a couple times but nothing definitive ever found... sometimes pulling on the parking cable guide below the handle would work. But 4lo in reverse always did the trick.

Ah. I also had my 1st gen parked for a while, and the rear brakes frozen due to caked on silt from a low water crossing I did. One recommendation is to not use e-brake for parking on a flat.

That's what I have, we ordered it from Toyota with the 5 sp and a bunch of the other options we wanted. Took 2 months to get but we weren't in a rush

The only 5 Speed Manual in a 3rd Gen that I was aware of was the SR, and they even did away with that for 2018.
