I was putting the throttle body back together and torquing the bolts (9ft lbs) and one of the ones on the top broke leaving about 1/2 of the thread still attached. What am I going to do?? Obviously I need a new bolt. If I tighten the rest and put everything back together, will I be able to get to the dealership to get a new screw okay?

How am I going to fix this?!

Ok, I got the bolt completely out but the dealer is saying it could take up to a week to get the bolt in. Will I be able to drive with the other three bolts snug?

You should be fine until the new bolt arrives. Have you asked the parts department if they can expedite the order. I know with the company I work for it is possible but it's a few extra bucks to get the part next day.

Fire up the engine and rev it a few times. If idle RPM isn't excessive and the check engine light doesn't come on, you are fine. If air leaks occur, try wrapping electrical tape around the seam.

He said if it is in his main warehouse it would be faster. I'm going in tomorrow to find out. They are closed now.

Check with any parts stores like autozone or pepboys? Sometimes you can get a part there quicker. You can also try online and get next day if the dealer can't help. If worse comes to worse, take one of the bolts out and go to HD or Lowes and get a similar bolt from among the hundreds there as a temp bolt if you end up having to wait a few days.

Thanks for the replies guys. I was able to get it back together. It ran a little high at first, but I had just cleaned the mass air flow and the throttle body and I re,ember someone saying it might idle a little high at first. I out some electrical tape around the top seam and hit the throttle a few times. Idle came down and no cel light so I think I'll be ok.... Now I don't even wanna start my spark plugs lol.

Never done them before. Did the oil (that's all I've ever done on my trucks), front diff, t case and rear diff fluid changes. Never done those before. Everything was going so well dammit!

The bolt sheared at 9 ft-lb? Double-check your torque wrench and hold the rachet head while torquing.

I'll do some searching tomorrow morning. Hopefully I can find it without having to go to the dealer. 3 spark plugs down, 3 to go! Thanks for all the help!

Yeah. I was pissed! I'm sure it was user error though. Oh well, live and learn. Learning as I go. The afternoon was going too well for something not to get screwed up!

Where in california are you? If the dealer has to order the bolt I know this place in garden grove that has pretty much everything in stock.

Junk yard is always another option besides the other places me or others have mentioned above.

Fastenal is a company around here that had all the stuff i needed to remove a broken stud from my bronco II. Got the easy out, tap, and new bolt. I'm sure they would have what you need. Any industrial fastener supply should have it. NAPA auto parts is also a good choice if they operate in your area.

Thanks guys. I'm in the bay area. I will check the local places first and see if they have it. Just buttoned everything back up and took it for a drive. No issues so if the worst case scenario is that I have to wait a week, I'm pretty sure I will be okay.

Krans, do you have the name of the place in garden grove? Maybe I will give them a call also if I can't find it local.

    Thanks!
