I purchased my taco with this bug deflector paint on the hood and fenders. Its not rhino lined but it has very little texture. Well, it looks really tacky in person and I have been trying to figure out how to take it off. I tried using a heat gun and a putty knife and it worked but the heat made my paint come off too. Any one know of an idea on how to remove this without stripping the white paint underneath or should i continue using heat gun, sand and repaint?

Close-up pictures would help us understand the problem a little better.

Swap out the hood, and add fiberglass fenders... maybe even a LT kit too?

Ok, in all seriousness... If it's paint and it's cured or bonded, there probably isn't much you can do.

You could try linseed oil or WD40 to see just how cured it is. But don't let either of those sit on the paint very long. These work very well for removing road tar.

I was considering buying the glassworx hood I just didn't know if it worked without the fenders. No money for LT just yet :/

If you didn't like it, why did you buy it?
Edit - Why did you buy the "truck" with that "stuff" on it knowing that it looked "tacky"

Separate the shield from the hood with small diameter spectra fishing line or dental floss. Then use an adhesive remover that is safe for paint. 3M makes one as do many others.
