Wrapping up the timing belt replacement. Want to make sure I didn't go too far into the head with the cam seals. It almost feels like it's flush with the head, but just a hair or two farther in. I can feel a slight ridge when moving my finger over the seal and head. Watching Timmy the Toolmans guide and he says you want it flush with the head. I'm not even sure if you can push these too far or if there's a stopper on the other side. Want to make sure before I put everything back together.20210731_193450.jpg 20210731_193458.jpg

They look fine to me, a mm or so past flush isn't going to hurt anything.
The main thing is making sure that they are in the same depth all the way around.

Ok so I had this "issue" when putting the other seal in and thought I had put it in crooked so I bought a new one from Toyota and it looks the same as before:mad:

Does this look crooked or not all the way in to anyone? I used the seal driver kit everyone recommends both times so I'm pretty confident it's in straight.

Also as a side note I've been trying the hammer tap trick and it's not going in any further. Really don't want to have to buy another seal from Toyota but thinking about pulling it again to inspect why it doesn't want to go in.

It's hard (for me, anyway) to see from your last photo if the seal is installed correctly because I can't see the metal part of the seal. It does look like you installed it correctly.

If it were me, I would slide the gear on the shaft until it stopped. Then I would run the bolt in and check to see that doing so does not move the gear. If it did move the gear, then I would think the gear is compressing the seal and that the seal is not all the way in. (Just my way of thinking... the gear should not touch the rubber part of the seal).

Another way would be to lay the original seal (if you still have it) on a flat surface and compare its height with a micrometer with that of the replacement seal. If the replacement is higher, then post your results here for more help.

Agree with @skeezix methods if you want to be absolutely fine but also agree with @Rachelsdaddy that the seals are fine.
