Hope someone here can point me in the right direction. Suddenly I have not been able to fill my gas tank the normal way and its getting worse. I have been to 5 different gas stations to no avail. No matter what way I hold the nozzle or what angle I hold it I cant fill for more than second at a time and then the nozzle shuts off. Takes me 15 minutes to fill up by using the least amount of pressure on the nozzle. I found some info about other vehicles but cant seem to find any on the Tacoma or even where to start looking. Any help would be great. Thanks in advance

I have not seen this on my vehicles but for the time the vent hose got pinched closed.

The air needs a way to escape as the gas goes into the tank.

Make someone mad ?? They opened your cap and stuffed a Rag or something else into the filler tube.

Sounds like the tank vent is clogged.

My old work truck did this and I never really looked into it, but... in the mean time, try holding the dispenser nozzle so about 1" of it protrudes into the filling neck. This will allow enough of a vent to at least get fuel into your tank.

yeah don't insert the fuel nozzle ALL the way in.

youll see in the accordion boot there are a couple of small holes. as the nozzle pumps fuel through, it also sucks air back in. if it doesn't suck any air, it will click off.

    keep this in mind.

Check your evap cannister. It is probably bad or you have a clog in the line between the canister and the gas fill line. Try blowing some air through from the hose that connects to the cannister to the filler. If that does not do it, the cannister is probably bad.

the evap canister has absolutely nothing to do with filling up your gas tank..............

see post 6. thats it. unless you actually have a clogged air return hose (almost impossible since nothing else should ever be going in your tank except gas) the issue is with how you're filling your gas.................

Well, I have not had a problem pumping gas in 2 years of ownership, so some thing must be clogged. I would like it to function as it is suppose to. Is the air return right off the filler tube?

when I say it's almost impossible to clog, I literally mean you have more of a chance of winning the lottery than actually clogging it somehow. there is no way, unless you maybe are peeling out in reverse in the dirt and kick a rock up so hard it bends the filler tube shut, you can clog the filler tube.

its more likely that newer regulations forced gas stations to change their handles for vapor return equipped setups.

don't stick the handle in as far as youre used to.

Thanks again, I just read of some drivers air return clogged with spider webs and eggs or some other insect doings so I wanted to start at the air return if and clean the lines out if possible.
