Great. Spray it with brake cleaner. It will clean it quickly.

Reviving this as apposed to making a post. I lost this sleeve while working on a few other items. I can't seem to find a part # for it if there even is one. Maybe someone might have some insight on how I can attain one or figure out a solution to securing the pump back on.

The upper bolt threads in but if I'm reading this correctly then the sleeve is gone for the lower bolt as it just goes into the bracket with nothing to screw into

    Thanks

Only the upper bolt has the sleeve that the longer bolt threads into.

The lower shorter bolt just threads back into the pump to secure it to that lower mount point. If you look at your pump you will see that bottom hole is threaded that the bolt goes into.

That slider/sleeve for the upper mount should be pressed into the bracket, so that shouldn’t fall out.

Ended up figuring it out. The replacement that I bought didn't come threaded - tapped some threads in and added thread locker - worked perfectly.

Hopefully if anyone else has a similar issue they can find this post.

    Thanks for your insight:thumbsup:

I am in the process of reinstalling a power steering pump as well.

@Bishop84 if you’re still watching this thread, are we supposed to put Loctite on the bolts that hold the power steering pump on? There is some pink on the bolts and it looks like red loctite tight to me.

    Thanks,

No, its manufacturing ink on the bolt.

Is it jury, or jerry rigged?

Anyway, what you describe is actually annealing copper, and probably makes it better than a new washer, because the stamping from manufacture creates work hardening. Copper washers never really have to be replaced, nothing jerry rigged about it. But you do need to go further than blacken it, you need to get it red hot. Then quench in cold water. No soap or sanding required.

I’ve got them hot with MAP gas and it worked. Haven’t tried red hot.

first time did it on a spare for shits and giggles to see what would happen. Held the torch on too long and melted an aluminum oil plug washer into a puddle. Didn’t take much.

You can’t do it with aluminum. But copper is different, and it won’t melt until about 2k degF
