I might be switching from Wildpeaks to Toyos in the next tire change. The constant fight with throbbing, out of balance tires is just not worth it. I got these Wildpeaks when they were $130/tire, and have 4 years on them right now, so I can't complain too much! That said, I would not want to pay the current prices for these tires and have the issues I've had. If I'm gonna pay $250/tire, I want them to stay balanced.

I should note that the Wildpeaks look great, and have superb traction on rain, snow, and ice. No complaints in those departments!

I had the wildpeak 265/75/16’s. They were great in the rain, good in the snow, ok in mud. While I had no balancing issues, like others have reported, they did wear out quickly. I expected the softer compound to wear faster than say a KO2 but they were cupped and completely shot by 34k miles. So bad that driving on the highway was terrifying. That was with rotations every 5k mi and keeping an eye on tire pressure.

Sounds like more of an alignment issue than tires.

Okay, dropped all four Wildpeaks down to 27 lbs. Forgot to push the little reset button under the dash so on my first trip out the TPMS said that all four were at 28lbs., but both rear were under-inflated. Kind of strange. Anyway I reset the system and it showed no numbers in the DIC for a while, but after a few miles they all popped back up at 28lbs. Re-checked them last night when they were cold, took out a pound each so they should be good to go.

It seemed like they rode a little smoother but the road noise was about the same. It might have been my imagination but they seemed to "drift" left/right a tiny bit now, as if they were somewhat squishy. Might have been the grooves in the freeway though. They're terrible here from folks running studded tires. Causes more road noise too.

So time will tell. So far they ride well, handle well, don't bounce or vibrate. The road noise is slightly annoying, but I replaced the door and dash speakers with some nice ones from DS18 and Infinity a couple of weeks ago so I can turn up the tunes a bit. :headbang:

Thanks again for the great advice, much appreciated!

I'm confused. I don't see P265/70R16 as an available size on the Falken website and the sidewalls of mine do not say P265.

According to the pics I have of my old tires, the stock Goodyears and the Wildpeaks are both 265/70R16 112T, so I'm still running 30PSI.

I've not experienced any issues whatsoever thus far.

Well damn, you are correct. I should have noticed that when the 112T didn’t match the 111 on the P portion of the tire pressure website. I called them P’s because discount tire’s website listed them that way. I should have checked Falken and TireRack.

So, @TRDRed, the factory pressure of 30 psi is correct after all. My bad!

Very subjective subject. It was a choice between Michelin Defenders or the Toyo AT3’s. Never had an A/T tire before so I chose the Toyo’s one size up from stock.

It’s been 1.5 years so far and have been very happy. Long, Hot sunny road trips, Atmospheric Rivers, back country exploring and winter snow storms.

I would buy them again at this point.

Well, I'm back with some disappointing news about my new Falken Wildpeaks. I took my first "long-ish" trip yesterday, a couple of hours mostly freeway plus some side roads and anything above 60mph was, for lack of a better word, harsh, really harsh. I knew going from all season to all terrain would be different, but this was an unexpectedly disheartening experience.

I didn't detect any of the typical out-of-balance vibrations like you would in the steering wheel (front) or seat (rear). It was just a constant and uncomfortable buzz, rumble, low vibration that I could feel everywhere. I tried going faster and slower, but the faster I went the worse it got. Under 50, not bad, over that. not good. Honestly by the end of my trip I was physically tired from the ride. I'd made the same trip before and it was a pleasure. Not this time.

I only have 198 miles on them. Tire pressure was good all the way around (back to spec of 30lbs), no load and nothing new, except the tires.

I'm torn between asking DT to try and balance them again or just go with my second choice, the Toyos. Others here have said that the Toyo's ride is very smooth. The rain/snow ratings are slightly under the Falken's but I really can't take that kind of annoyance on longer trips. Maybe I should have listened. :(

EDIT: After talking to the folks at Discount Tire - they were very helpful and understanding - I've decided to swap out the Falkens for the Toyos. Hopefully they'll be a better experience. As @BLtheP mentioned earlier, although lots of folks have positive things to say about the Wildpeaks, a number also have negative things to say about them. That doesn't seem to be the case with the Toyo ATIIIs. :fingerscrossed: Gotta love Discount Tire!

Quick follow-up to my earlier post about the vibration issues I was having with the Falken Wildpeaks I recently installed. Discount Tire to the rescue. I contacted Jordan here on the forum and he arranged for me to take it back to our local outlet and exchange them for Toyo Open Country AT3s.

After driving on the streets and freeways, dry pavement and in the rain, I have to say they are MUCH better! Little to no vibration at any speed and as smooth as I'd expect any AT tire to be.

A number of folks here and elsewhere have had zero problems with their Falkens. However a number have and some described what I encountered... just an annoying buzz/rumble/vibration. Not the kind you get when one tire is out of balance, but just an overall rough ride.

When they were about done installing them, the tech came to me and said that they checked the road force balance on the Falkens and they were all in the 25 to 30 lb. range. He said that might have been okay on some vehicles, but not the Tacoma. By comparison he said all of the Toyos were in the 7 to 11 lb. range. So he said that it wasn't just my imagination and that they were happy to be sure that I was taken care of.

I had to return a set of tires I bought from DT on a Lexus I had about 20 years ago. I felt kind of bad, but they were great about it. I've been a loyal customer since. I still feel a little badly about it this time, but once again, they made sure that I was satisfied.

    Thanks Discount Tire!:woot:

So weird. My new Falkens yield a smooth quiet ride on my '16 TRD Off-Road. No buzz, rumble, or vibration.

Yep... have read plenty of good reviews of the Falkens. Seems to be kind of hit-and-miss. Folks with no issues at all, while some others had problems from the start like me. Guess you never know. I really did like the look of the Falkens a little more, plus they scored slightly higher in rain and snow tests than the Toyos (and what tipped me toward the Wildpeaks), but you know how it goes. Heck, might have put on a different set of Falkens and been good to go, who knows? Glad yours are doing well! Hope my Toyos continue to be good to me too.

I'd like to share my thought on Wildpeaks. 1st of all, they did great in the snow, fairly quiet and rode quite nice... when new. I rotated them religiously, maintained good AP and never abused them. But the more i had them rotated and balanced, the more vibration i got from both front and rear tires. Went to shop and they said they developed a lateral movement and cant be fixed with balancing. SOOOOOO Bummed, really wanted to like them.
