Allows you to crawl forward while turning the key using the starter.

Would that not put strain on the starter and the battery?

Yes. Only use when absolutely required. Like ready to roll off cliff.

No cliff's in Toronto, just lots of traffic congestion.

It really just allows you to start the truck without depressing the clutch. Yes, you can also rock crawl out of a sticky spot with the starter but... mostly... just very convenient for not climbing in to start it while you brush the snow off, or are working on it in greasy clothes.

dont give the guy bad ideas...;)

the button works so you dont have to push the clutch in to start the vehicle, just make sure its out of gear before you use it.

My 2000 you have to push the clutch all the way to the floor to get the lower microswitch to realize that the clutch is pushed in. and sometimes I dont feel like jumping all the way in the vehicle just to start it.

Just remember to put it in neutral first or it will run over your toes!

He's correct, though. I mean, it's even clearly articulated in the photo of the manual OP posted.

Yes, you can use it out of laziness, but it's intended purpose is to "walk" the truck slightly to get you out of a sticky situation - a situation where, due to the lag time of brake-to-gas manipulation, the truck might conceivably roll into a hazard.

Vancouver is no better. But we do have cliffs.
