should only be an issue with BAMF. My understanding no issue with Archive. BAMFs are setup to run Deavers for sure.

I'm not sure how much I can remove but my truck going through some diet considerations. A truck with front/rear bumpers, winch, full skids, sliders, rear swingout, full-size spare, E rated tires with a shell, rack, or wedge setup will be 6-7k lbs easily. This should give plenty of an explanation to all the broverlanders why their truck feels slow because that truck is. I thought my truck was maybe 1000 over then found it it is 1700 over in the bed. Even if I get it down to 6-6500 I likely will still need a custom deaver setup.

Since this thread has turned into us shitting on dakars, this is what mine looked like after only a year. I sent this pic to ARB and they warrantied them with no issues which was nice. I ended up selling the new ones and buying icons anyway, but kudos to ARB for an easy warranty process.

I don't understand where the manufacturers can't seem to get a handle on the required material specs for the leaf steel. Or maybe they know and can't get their vendors to tow the mark....... I've had Chebbie, Heep and Ferd vehicles - older models - that retained their shape for many years of overloads, campers, farm trailers and so on. May need to get an old chebbie spring (that worked) - and send a chunk off to the lab. Hardness is a big issue - indicates tensile strength - along with cross section geometric strength. When things are right - they won't "creep".

Oh I hate dakars, fuck em. The switch to icon really opened my eyes to the poor ride quality of dakars, among all the other issues. People should go dobinsons for a comparable price without any issues.

Oddly enough, there's another thread in here shitting on Dobinsons

And I'm sure there's one in here where somebody's taking a crap on icons as well. I wonder if this is like poor design, lack of quality control, or it's the internet so people will always find something to complain about...

Every leaf pack has its issues, I'm not denying that. Dakars just has the largest volume of issues and they're widespread. They can't handle weight well, forms a W, squeaks like mad, gouges the shackle, etc. And these are across almost every leaf pack due to their inherent design. 9/10 people with dakars will have something to complain about with them and the same can't be said with other leaf packs.

The design oversight on that long second leaf is what baffles me, because ARB claim to do excellent and rigorous design testing, but this is clearly an oversight given the different shackle design between the trucks. Dobinsons had the same issue when they first started sending springs over here, I'm assuming that's been fixed....

The pic in #66 shows a yielded leaf - could be wrong thickness or softer than spec steel. I've gotten both from Chinese vendors - careful inspection is the only way I've been able to weed the stuff out (mining machine parts). They can make a thousand correct parts that perform - then abruptly slip in a hundred "ringers". If you don't catch them immediately on arrival and pull the plug, the next hundred will be just as bad.

I felt bad for my truck when I hit the scales at 6040lbs... it's gone up since then with rear HC and swingout and all the heavy weight hanging off it. O yeah... sliders added too. I'm sure I'm pushing that 6500 mark when fully loaded. But yeah, I've got a buddy with his Taco on 37s, all armored up over 7K, and that was with a standard topper, before installing his GFC... Still amazes me my truck weighs more than my sister's Raptor!

They are all basically using the same thing, Sup 9 silicon manganese spring steel that meet or exceed manufacturing standards or similar.

It may be a thickness thing, i dont know, the difference between my stage II and III Deavers was I think 3/4"

Hey guys, I’m a newb with suspension, but I’m wondering what the best set up would be for a short bed with a canopy, RTT and other cargo in the bed to total 500 lbs in the rear? Would a 3 AAL (thinking Headstrong) work? Or, with the consensus of all on here, going the Deaver route?

No plans on changing the stock suspension, other than the leaves, and no future plans on towing.

I believe the Deaver route is best. The ability to have greatly varying weights without a harsh ride would really help you out, i'm betting. If you decided to take the RTT off and run around with an empty bed it'd be a decent ride still. The hardest part will be deciding which stage to get. I'd bet Stage II would be good, as long as you know you will never upgrade to a wedge camper and/or any rear armor & swingout. And as for mentioning @HeadStrong Off-Road , absolutely ping them. They are awesome.
