It's actually a Japanese imported 1990 HZJ77. They only sold the wagon variation in Japan until they added the wide noses and then they renamed it as the 76. I've been told that by others as well since 35s are so rare and it's obviously not a 40, 60, or an 80. Shame that the 70's were never sold in North America as they are ridiculously robust little cars that can eat up most any terrain.

Click the LandCruiser in my signature - if mobile flip it horizontal - and it will take you to a build type thread showing the details as well as heaps of pictures.

He’s right. Despite any maintenance costs, you’ll pay half the price up front and mod it to whatever your needs suit you. I’m ten grand into my 100 series and it does everything I need with the mods I wanted. I LOVE my taco, but I have both. If you have the ability, buy the LC. It will change your perspective on vehicles entirely.

Wound up finding a fairly clean local '04 Land Cruiser and picked it up today. Thanks all for the advice!

    Like, so many.
Sounds like you’ve done a great job assessing your needs. From what you’ve posted, I really think the Taco is a better fit for you. It’s so much newer, has that bed you’ll need, better for commuting, etc. taking two vehicles camping is probably a good idea anyway.

Thanks, I always wanted em and finally some showed up on Craigslist about an hour away. Snatched em up. They were recently repainted so they look great and have zero marks from wheel weights.

And being a 1st Gen wheel they sit about about 1/2” or better then where the steelies were.
