Is it the interior or exterior handle that isn't working right?

I lost track thousands of dollars ago.
It's really hard to say whats wrong without removing the door panel. It could just be a linkage problem. I would take off the door panel and try and open the door and you should be able to see the problem.

It sounds like you need a new handle. I replaced both my front exterior door handles last year. It's not exactly an easy job but I was able to do it.

When you lift up on the handle, there is a part of that handle that makes contact with a part of the door lock / opening mechanism. That part on the handle wears out from use and doesn't making contact any more and won't allow you to open your door.

I am a first time poster on this forum. My drivers side exterior handle is about to break, on my 99 Tacoma Xtra cab. The return spring on the interior same door broke as well. Where is the best place to get parts?

I have a 2000 and had the same issue. Damn lock would go down as you were pulling on the handle! WTF right? I ended up getting enough of the door panel loose to look at the latch area. Was able to lube up everything in that area and that was all it took. Its been like five years now and still good to go!
