Dumb question since I don't live in Alaska, but why would you need the AC in the winter? Also yes the installer is at fault if it was touching they should have notified you before moving forward to make you aware of the possible effects. If they never noticed then it's on them for negligence. Shop around here used to install lifts for dealers until they forgot to tighten lug nuts. Wheel fell off while owner was driving and shop was found at fault.

Yota tech said it was on the same system (but I could be wrong OR I might have misheard them), But I do know that I had the heat on and my truck started making some really weird noises. So I just left it off

News to me that's crazy, but adjust the winch or you might need to make the slots on the bumper bigger to help it move forward more.

Yeah Idk I thought it was separate, not a mechanic though, all I know is that my truck started making some scary noises when I turned the heat on, vents were making a light screeching noise, didn't sound right

I'm not saying to do that. I deal with pissed off customers all day and whether they are right or wrong I offer a solution. To completely bash a company to potenionally ruin business can affect everyone in the company not guilty. I would contact them again and see if there is anything y'all can come to agree on then if not I would look down other avenues.

Back in the day before the interwebz I took out an small ad in the Sunday paper in the auto section thta said "Stadium Toyota sucks and has unqualified techs working in the service dept" In red ink got my point across and had many phones calls from them......All this was over a 3 hr labor charge..

I would not remove it till it was settled and I had cash and cost a in my hands......

They're gonna fix it and pay for it, all it took was for me to mention the slotted bumper and they were like oh crap. If it weren't for @DefconBrix and pelfreybilt I wouldn't have known

I would go back to the installer and say "fix it, or I'm going to small claims court. Obviously YOU installed the winch and left it with it touching the AC refrigerant line. You can fix it now, or you can pay someone else to fix it, plus my lawyer's retainer, plus the court filing costs... your choice."

They admitted to installing it improperly after I brought the slotted bumper to their attention. The winch was pushed all the way back and it wasn't supposed to be

Ohh yeah, I saw that, but I guess I was wondering if they seemed apologetic or annoyed

Hesitant and annoyed at first that's for sure but at least they're gonna make it right. After I brought the slots to their attention they were like well shit. So shout out to my tacomaworld peeps for coming in with the big save! They originally agreed to split the cost of install (very reluctantly and somewhat like they were doing me a favor lol), but I wasn't gonna accept that since none of this was my fault. I guess the moral of the story is to always consult TacomaWorld in a similar situation, because this site is superrrr helpful!

I'm glad you got this resolved. Sounds like a simple oversight that any of us could be guilty of. Aftermarket parts can be a challenge for many shops, there are a lot of variables that come into play and often little details can be overlooked.

I will use this as a lesson, chance for improvement and update our installation instructions to make note of this potential issue for installers moving forward.

I appreciate you bringing this up and allowing us an opportunity to improve as a manufacturer and share that with our customers.

Definitely a mistake anyone could make for sure. I won't rag on the business for making a mistake, my main problem at first was the denial of any responsibility. I work with customers all the time too and have had an experience before where a customer blamed me for something not working, I didn't deny total responsibility at first but I was definitely hesitant to just pay for anything, I just said "hey it's totally possible that I could have messed it up but I'll need to take a close look at it", a few hours later they gave me a call and told me that they were just using it wrong lol. I totally understand that businesses should completely exercise caution with such complaints. But after I got more information about how the winch mounting on the bumper works they agreed that it was indeed installed improperly. I just wanted it fixed and made right, and they've assured me that it will be fixed. No issue here anymore. I appreciate you guys contacting Sean since he let me know about the bumper slots. Your customer service is A1.

I agree. Girlfriend doesn't agree since few months ago I got the high clearance with swing out which we both love. Then before last Christmas I showed up with a Landcruiser unexpectedly to her. Not mention the front bumper sliders skids and other misc stuff. Pelfreybilt, making smiles and making girlfriends mad. Relationships are about compromise so I figure 1 of us should be happy with my decisions, why not me.
