howdy guys, i just got some 285/70/R17 BFG MT KM2's and i am going to put them on the OEM 17" tacoma TRD wheels and i know i need spacers from what everyone has said. can anyone who is running this size tire on OEM 17's give me any advice on spacer size? i want to keep the spacer as thin as possible. i have a 3" coil lift in front, i am sure it probably settled some so i took measurement.

the measurement from the center of the hub to the fender via plimb line is 22.25 inches.

any advice, experiences, etc much appreciated! :)

    thanks in advance

My father in law had a spacer on his Corvette. The back wheel sheered off the studs and the car fell on the tire while it was going down the road. It cracked the passenger side QP. Luckily not traveling too fast. The tire and wheel kept going down the road.

I took it to the shop, put it on the lift and had to replace the studs on the passenger side. I took the tire off the drivers side and had to replace those too as it was about to break off three of the five on that side too.

You are adding another un-necessary flex point which adds more stress to the wheel studs. If this is on the front and falls off, you are asking for serious trouble.

i really appreciate all the help guys, i want to stay with an oem wheel, or oem looking, if i can. i always liked 'sleepers', the debadged cars and trucks, look clean, not flashy, kinda have the look of being oem, if you didnt know what to look for you really would not notice the work put into it, if you what i mean.

is there ANY oem wheels with enough backspace to fit a tire that wide?

the issues you guys mentioned are the reason if i have to do it i want them to be as thin as possible.

or what about the old school spacers, where you put longer studs and the spacers are just plate with holes in them. they any better?

I ran spacers for 2 years on mine no problems get a reputable brand and torque them to the proper specs and check them on a regular basis tons of guys on here run them. A proper wheel would be best but spacers do the job fine if you do it correctly I'm not sure if any,oem will work I dout it tho

No spacers at all. Get a wheel that is already made with the different backspacing needed. Changing the geometry like that is not the way to go.

Sometimes you have to give up one thing to get another. What is more important to you, the size of the tire or the look of the wheel?

Not to mention the width of the wheel should be close to the width of the tire.

Lots of folks on this forum use spidertrax spacers for the purpose you're talking about - oem wheels on wider tires.

They're spendy though, so you won't really end up saving any money vs buying a 17x8/4.5bs rim once you consider that you can sell your oem rims.

So run the oem rims with spidertrax spacers if that's the look you want - or get aftermarket rims as others have suggested.

1.25 Spidertrax are your best bet. They don't put any more stress on axles/bearings than a wheel does that has a numerically smaller backspace. Lots of folks just don't recommend spacers if you offroad alot. Me personnaly, i've run spacers on a lot of trucks over the years. Never had 1 single problem. Check your torque/tightness often and you shouldn't have any issue. Lots of people run spacers, especially if you wanna keep your stock wheels. But don't skimp out and get a cheap E-bay chinese set. Get good ones like Spidertrax or Bora.

Op did you every order any wheel spacers? I am in the same boat as you, I want to run 285/75R16 tires with my stock wheels. So an update would be great!

Can you run these tires (285/75) with stock wheels and no wheel spacer or do they rub?
