I may be mistaken but the frame recall is only valid for 10 years. Frame was replaced in the final quarter of year 8.

I wouldn’t consider a 9 year old truck with a 137k new by any means. Not bashing ya, just my .02.

Oh no it's definitely not a new truck by any means, I just hadn't known that the year range got bumped all the way up to 2017 for replacements. I had been told a bunch of times it was only valid for 05-10 trucks. TIL!

Only if you get the “undercoating” correct?
My dealer recently told me it got extended but I thought he was blowing smoke.

I was surprised when they said they’ve only done a dozen so far. Wa, ID and MT lay the calcium and Magnesium chloride down thick so I figured it would have been a lot more.

Yeah there is something like that. I don’t remember the specifics though.

You live in Oregon, just walk away, why do you want to buy a truck from NY. You can get one where you live without rust. The undercoat they sprayed will actually make the frame rust faster once water or moisture gets trapped inside of it.

The frame was replaced due to perforation (caused by the rust) discovered during the inspection.

Is the film coating oily where you can remove it with your finger or is it actually adhered to the surface?

It looks to me like the dealer used Noxudol, which is what Toyota was using for a while as part of the frame settlement inspection/treatment. They quit using it because dealers were not applying it properly. Ask me how I know!

When applied properly, it's amazing stuff, but applying it properly involves getting every single particle of existing rust removed. I can absolutely guarantee that wasn't dine - that was a run and gun job to make everything look decent, which, as others have said, will actually make the truck rust worse over time as the rust continues to form underneath the coating, and you won't know about it until chunks are falling off, since the Noxudol holds everything in place while it decays.

Getting that stuff off involves a lot of solvent, wire brushes, and cursing, and if you're serious about keeping that truck, you would need to get it all off.

Dude…..I live below NY and was looking at trucks in CA, AZ, and down south when I was on the hunt and you’re doing the complete opposite. You don’t want a north east coast Tacoma…….believe me I looked at so many of them and walked away.
Oddly enough I looked into a 2013 Toyota certified Tacoma sitting on the dealers showroom floor in NY. They wouldn’t even send me a picture of the frame!….but it’s 27-28k and sitting inside and I can’t get a frame picture…nuts.

I will tell you the Tacoma’s in NH and Vermont area were all priced at 7-8K below market value when I was looking, because they were rusted to hell.
I spoke to a dealer in Vermont or NH who basically only sold Tacoma’s. He would buy every Tacoma at auction he could and ship them over to Africa, didn’t matter the condition lol they paid top dollar for them.

So yeah stay away from the trucks on this part of the US.

A local classic car dealer would do that to every car they tried to sell. Fresh undercoating, detail the engine, and put a coat of wax on the paint. All priced twice what they were worth. Might be fine, but I won't buy anything with an undercoating like that.
