HELP! have white noise

HELP!
install is complete, kinda
have the front and rear speakers wired amp to the HU everything is wired

problem: with gain of amp set to the very lowest setting im picking up a white noise a, schhhhhhhh

 

what kind of equipment?

 

boston components up front with rockfords in the rear a pioneer avh p4100 HU and a pioneer gm 6400f 4 channel

 

how's your ground. what gauge wire are you using to the amp. at this point it's a process of elimination. if you're willing, try to wire those speaker directly to the radio, eliminating the amp. there is one other possibility- but save that for later as it is worst case senario- blown pico fuse in your headunit.

 

ive tried several ground points and im running 4 guage wire

 

i soldered the speaker wire to all the speakers, would that matter?

 

could be your amp, the rca's or the pico fuse. try a different set of rca's or another amp if you can borrow one. is it alternetor whine you are hearing, does it change speed with the engine?

diagnosing a pico fuse is a little involved.
get a wire and touch the outer shield of the RCA to the harness ground. if the noise stops, that's the problem. i believe pioneer charges a flat fee to repair the pico fuse as it the size of an eyelash.

its the same with engine on or off.

 

start eliminating one item at a time to see if it's a component type of deal. You can feed your amp from a home reciever via RCA's to eliminate the HU. Grab an old speak and hook it to the amp to see if you are getting the noise. Eliminate the cross overs, etc....

One item at a time. You'll find it.

 

if you have a multimeter check for continuity from the rca ground at the stereo to the stereo chassis. you will have to unplug the rca's form the stereo first though. if it's an open circuit the headunit may need repair.

so i unplugged the rcas from the HU and i still had the noise, its the amp then correct?

 

any more ideas, i would really like to get my car put back together

 

can you feed the amp a different signal i.e. an ipod or home dvd player or something. make sure to use the rca's you installed and then eliminate. if the noise is still present then it may your amp.

 

well i used a ps2 and it still had the noise, so i didnt use my rcas

 

so bad ground or bad amp?

 

could be either one. you have already tried a different ground correct?
