I'm away from home so I'm in need of some help, I went out to my truck last night and my heater was running and the oil pressure light were on, no key in the ignition, ignition was off. I checked interior fuses but all were fine, I can hear a slight hissing coming from above the fuse box, it could just be power running the fuse box but I'm unsure, my guesses are bad ignition, or bad main fuse or possible short somewhere, I'm puling the neg. Battery cable to keep from draining it. I'm a long ways from home and help from anyone any ideas would be great, I'm mainly worried about something catching fire on my way home and not being able to make it back, or completely toasting my wiring harness.
Please help if you have any ideas

First step, get the wiring diagrams for the truck. Course, you have those already since you are trying electrical work, right? :D

Trace from the ignition switch to all the circuits that are powered. You likely have more on.

From what you describe, it's say ignition switch or a relay with fused contacts. Find the relay to the parts that are on, and swap it with another that's identical. See if it changes.

If not, get at the ignition switch and verify it goes open when it's supposed to.

i think there is a tool that can trace your harness/system and tell you if something is open or shorted like those tools they have for low voltage and 120v. im guessing something is probably shorted or soemthing isnt engaging to turning off. in the meantime till you fix the problem you can put a breaker inline with the power so you wont have to keep disconnecting your battery. hope this helps!
