Both trucks are extended cab 4x4 sr5. Both are 3.4 v6 auto. I'm wanting to put the motor and trans from my 98 into my 03. Is there any issues with this swap. Should everything just swap right over? Any sensors or things like that that I need to know about. Wanting to take engine and trans out of 98 put into 03. Even the engine harness bc it's gone on the 03. Please any help or pointers would help before I start so I'm not going back and doing things twice after motor and trans get in.
    Thanks
    Matt.

If you live in California, I believe it is illegal to swap in an older engine.

No experience here, but I imagine you'd also have to swap the intake, exhaust system, sensors and computer from the older vehicle.

Not in California. I live in Lousiana. Just about anything is legal here if not we can slip through the cracks on stuff. So just looking for the easiest way to make the swap. Emissions isn't a big deal.

Subbed. I've got a '98 3.4 engine/tranny on a stand with the intention to have as a spare for my '04.

If you are using the harness and ECU from the 1998, there should be no issues. The sensors on the motor will match up to the plugs on the harness.

The only thing that jumps out at me is the differences in the vapor evaporation system. The charcoal canister for the '98 is under the hood, the '03 has the canister under the truck bed. There will be small differences in vacuum hoses. Take lots of pictures of the vacuum lines.

From owning both a '98 and an '04 standpoint, there is very little differences between the years. In fact, my present '04 has the front end from my previous '98.

I am amazed at how similar they drove as well. There is a route I take to and from work every day. The '98 would shift into overdrive lockup at an exact point on my trip every day. The '04 goes into overdrive lockup at the same point, as in within 20 feet close.

Thanks for the info koditten. What about if the 98 was manual locking hubs and the 03 auto. Isn't there a harnes that plugs into the front diff for auto locking hubs?

Hes. there will be another ECU that controls the locking of the hubs. I know nothing beyond that.

Got the motor and trans in. Everything fit really nice until it came to wiring. The motor harness form the 98 doesn't have the same plug to plug into the dash harness. Does anyone know if the make an adapter plug to make it work?
