Tried a stripped bolt extractor from harbor freight but it wouldn’t work.

trying to replace the CV on the front drivers side. Any other way I can do that ?
This bolt has made me lose hours of sleep.

i just had to drill out a grade 8 14mm seat bolt today. well, and yesterday.

i ended up using two cobalt bits to step up to a speedout bit. that went in strong today, but it broke the drill. after getting the drill off the bit, i used a large vise grip as strongly locked as i could get it, and basically hung on the thing full force and almost stripped the sides of the speedout bit. basically at the limit but it worked out.

after thinking about it, I'm estimating my torque on the bolt under 30ft/lbs. I'm sure you're well above that. good luck.

First trick of rounded bolt extractors is hammer them on first then use a ratchet and not air or electric. Use a sharp chisel and hit at base of bolt in direction of loosening rotation. That always works for me

I tried that and it seemed to literally cut bits off the base. Is this okay?

Yes, if you can get to it with a decent hammer and chisel, I've always had good luck with that method. The shock of the hammer helps a lot.

Hit it on the shaft of the bolt where the meat is but yes, you're going to mangle it bad. That's usually when they let go though.

I have an old dull hard as hell chisel that is my bolt basher. It's heavy and I use a 2# hammer.

Let’s say I do this, and chisel off half the bolt. Is there a way to take it out after that? Because I’m seeing that as a very real possibility

The bolt is most likely tight against the surface and not in the threads so if I breaks off you should be able to easily spin it out of the threads

I agree that especially if the head gets knocked off, the bolt will come out easy. It looks it.

A good wack with a sharp "pointed" punch on several sides works for me ... wack it on as many sides as you can get to ... then vise grips.

Could you maybe get a good pair of pliers on the bolt head and crack it loose? Its a tight space so maybe not. Lower ball joint bolts aren't torqued super tight but if it's been on there a long time it might be stuck...not to mention they are usually put in with threadlocker
