Oldsmobile had bronze wheels back in the early 70's. There are probably earlier examples of oems producing vehicles with bronze wheels

Yup, and color matched wheels was common all through the 70's. My first car was a 1979 Olds Cutlass Supreme my pops gave me just like this one. :D

We can hate all we want, but I respect the work of it. A lot of these trucks are charity fundraisers too. Parking lot pimpers that you see in those fundraiser that let everyone ride the giant monster truck school busses. Kids love em. I personally don't dig the style, but I can respect the work that goes into it and I remember the feeling as a kid seeing pretty much anything with bigger tires than me, lol. It could be the goofiest looking truck but if you asked me to ride it in I'd smile from ear to ear and knod my head up and down.

We're you the kid that grabbed daddies leg cuz it scared you? Boom goes the dynamite. (I'm JK btw, no sense in making this thread more of a roast than it already is and we get it... You like stock things...)

Been running the same black d-window steelies on my 2001 wrangler since purchasing them in 2009. Black aftermarket wheels have been popular since at least the early to mid 2000s.

Yeah don't get me wrong, I too respect the time, energy, and vision to build something like that but I have zero interest in "achieving" that for my own build. I follow all sorts of IG vehicle build pages from Frankenstein style patina rat rods to chromed out metal flaked lowriders because I like looking at creative people doing creative things.

Yes I love those "Trucks!" Shows and hotrodTV. They used to be the Sunday shows on spike TV and now it's pretty much just a couple YT channels. Great builds though.

Totally man. If I'm flipping through the channels and I come across a program of someone building out a vehicle (I don't care if it's a car, motorcycle, RV, semi truck...whatever) I'm watching it. Love watching the wild shit people do. Even if I'm shaking my head thinking to myself "why would they do that?" I'm still into it and there for it.

Subaru still had the 2015 STI "Launch Edition" rocking the BBS Gold wheels now all the WRX's and STI's are shod in gloss charcoal maybe the limited has forged wheels.

    2015-subaru-wrx_100453027_h.jpg

I had an 81' Z-28 in High School with the aluminum "wheels" as that was still an option but the base model came with colored matched steel "wheels".

Just looking at that Camaro I can hear Sammy Hagars "Three Lock Box" cranking out of the Alpine stereo :D

Did you ever watch Shade tree mechanic? So boring, but sometimes it’s fun to watch someone change the oil on their old ranger. Maybe even add some fog lights.

I know black wheels/rims are in now ... but I am not a big fan of them because I see a lot of peeling/chipping even on the premium brands.

FWIW ... Polished aluminum or true mags are my favorite (easier to fix scratches too).

I remember watching those shows in junior high / high school and liking them. However at some point they stopped being informative and legit commercials. I remember setting up the DVR and when you removed the intro / recap, ads and sponsored section there was six minutes of content in a 30 minute show.

Yea thats right about when they stopped being a TV show lol. They do have some legit newer content online, like YT, comparable if not the same as their old content. So that's good... and no commercials ;)

Here is a pic of a grey powder coated wheel I had done for my mom’s 2005 Lincoln LS. I wanted something other than silver, didn’t want to maintain chrome, and didn’t want the heavy black look.

The color is called Prismatic Powders Kingsport Grey

Regardless of color, I have enjoyed the ease of maintenance a proper powder coated wheel has provided. I don’t have time or interest to use mag wheel polish like I did in 1991.

Even the machine finish (which I like!) has a very thin layer of clear on it that is hard to maintain and will fail sooner rather than later. Since I switched to powder coated wheels in 2017 my maintenance has gone down and the wheels always clean up and shine up nicely.

I hear you on the black though. A bit played out. It does work on some vehicles but I would like to see it go away a bit.

I like the orange - that or a similar shade would look real nice with my Spruce Mica Taco..

My truck came with black rims and while I do not hate them, I also do not love them & my neighbors have black rims on their 4Runner and Tundra so there are alot of black rimmed Toyotas round here - I am ambivalent at best -
    BUT
I do like the idea of having them powder coated/painting them to make them contrast more/stand out/poppin' accent color on the Taco..
    A nice burnt orange - something of that sort . . .

ALSO - I might add, I am impressed that this has gone on for close to 20 pages - solid Friday post if I ever seen one - everybody got somethin to say on it ;)

Now it is Monday and back to reality for me!
