    Hi. New guy here.

I pass this truck everyday on my drive home. If you guys can help me out with the year, I would be thankful. Also, the grey TRD sticker is throwing me off. Other than this truck, Ive only seen those stickers in either black or white. Does that mean that this is a fake TRD?

My guess would be no, it looks like one of those Ebay stickers that come in a multitude of colors. Not too mention, didn't the TRD's in those years come with fender flares?

A quick way to find out is to look through the driverside window to see if has the e-locker button...but don't get caught looking like you're casing it.;)

Its a 98-00. And I believe it is not a true TRD because of the color of the sticker, and it does not have any fender flares.

    Thanks guys.
Im keeping my eye on it.

The diff drains on the right side, so that means no locker, right?
Which would also mean not a true TRD?

Jot down the VIN in the window and double check it on carfax or some other free website. Should pop up with year and sometimes will show options on the vehicle when it was sold.

The tip off is the diff drain plug. On the right means it is an 8.4" diff, no e-locker.

It wasn't until the '01 model that the thick black flares showed up. Prior to that, it depended on other "packages" as to whether or not you got flares.

I had a 2000 X-cab TRD V6...Manual, it came with fender flares. Fender flares were part of the package as far back as 98.

This is what the sticker should look like

    If it has 15" wheels it's from 98-00. If they're 16"s its 01-04. It looks like a SR5 package 4x4.

By looking at the front end, I can tell it is pre-2001.

you could get a 2.7l TRD in first gen

therefore you could have a TRD without the SR5 V6 badging on the tailgate
    :p

Looks just like my old 98. Canadian model of course... ;-)

1998 base v6 4x4, only visible difference is the absence of the silly little fender trim...

Edit: and there appears to be a badge behind the rear side window.. Sr5?
