Hey guys I need some help identifying the illumination and ground wire going into the cargo light toggle switch. I want to use that to tap into. I'm hooking up a toggle switch next to it and have already hooked up the toggle to my accessory so that it turns on and off with the push button but I now need to hook it up so that the button lights up with my other dash lights. I have a 2017 Tacoma off road. Here is a picture of the back of the cargo light switch. 20161101_134638.jpg

does the toggle switch have a dedicated light circuit? power and ground only for the indicator. is it an LED? I am asking so you don't unintentionally short out your truck.

I want to say yes. Here is a picture of the wire diagram for the toggle switch I'm installing 20161024_131837.jpg

I have already connected wire 1 & 2 so my bed speakers come on when I push the button. Now I just need to connect the other two so that it lights up when my dash lights are on. I want to tap into the outside cargo light switch 20161101_182808.jpg

Unfortunately, you can not hook that switch into the stock illumination circuit. That switch uses the ground wire for both the dash illumination and when activated.

You can still illuminate that switch off the taillight circuit. An add-a-circuit to the fusebox can provide the power for the dash wire on that switch. You won't be able to dim it with the rest of the stock illumination.

Did you ever figure out your solution? Does tapping into the ILL- and the ILL+ allow the CH4x4 switch to dim? I read on another post that this worked, but fergyz says otherwise. I know nothing about electrical and want to make sure it will work before I tap into the wires.

Yes I did. I connected the red 2 #3 wire coming off my switch to the green wire on the cargo switch and the black #4 coming off my switch to the tan wire on the cargo switch. It functions just the way I wanted it to. Lights up with the rest of the switches, dimes with the odometer dimmer switch, and the top part of the switch lights up when active. It also turns off when the rest are off.

how are you getting power to your relay? im not getting anything when I wire like that. I have (1# Green to inline fuse) (2# Red to relay) (3# red 2 to green illum+) (4# black to tan illum-)

I think you have the first two wires you mentioned switched. The #1 green wire goes to the source and the #2 red 1 goes to the relay or accessory

Trying to tie in more bed lighting via a relay into to cargo switch rocker. Do you happen to know which wire in this harness is the switched-on wire that goes to the cargo light/relay?

Great, thanks. Looks like the blue wire is a normally closed circuit showing 12v when off and no voltage when switched on. So the the added bed light should be connected to relay pin 87a and not 87, does that sound correct?

Sorry it's to pin 85 on your added relay for the additional LED's.

Thanks for this....I put meter on Switch Pin 5 (blue) to ground...it showed 12V when the Cargo Light was OFF and zero V when the cargo light was On? This feels backwards to me. It does toggle with the door switch, but again it is energized when the light is off?
