My truck was purchased used and came with a single DIN unit with the Metra dashkit. I went ahead and ordered a double DIN DVD player with 4v outputs, backup camera, HD Radio, yadda yadda yadda. It came with another double DIN dashkit from Metra and wire harness. From what I could gather from the crappy instructions, I am to use the factory radio's mounting brackets and put them on the new Pioneer stereo, but I don't have the factory radio, so I am assuming that I will need to order brackets for the new head unit. Is there a tutorial anywhere? I have looked here and on Youtube, and Youtube only had really crappy videos, one was a guy showing you what he did at night with a flashlight (WTF?). Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I have all the wires run, speakers are installed and the amps mounted and installed by myself. I was just swapping out the head unit with a better one.

If I remember right, the side pieces on my dash kit screwed directly to my pioneer.

The plastic ones are junk. Don't use them. Someone had to have a pair if factory metal brackets laying around.

Go get a Schoshe dash kit, it comes with the side brackets you need. They are plastic, but unless you are doing some heavy bumps/vibrations they work just fine.

Maybe the Scosche is a better kit than the Metra that came with it. I posted a WTB in the Audio/Video For Sale section so hopefully I can get some in by the weekend.

UPDATE: I am updating so if anyone runs in to the same issue, they will see the reason. I contacted Metra tech support and their kit does require that the factory brackets that come with the Tacoma be used in the installation with their kit. I have ordered some from a member here who is not using his.
