So I was taking out the cam seals on my 5vzfe and I somehow managed to gouge the cam on the yellow area pictured. I also have a tiny gouge on the outer lip where the seal ends. Am i screwed? 20250215_165046.jpg 20250215_163749.jpg

    No. That part doesn't turn.
And the actual "sealing" of the seal is on the sides of the seal. Not the back side.

Look at the back of the cam seal. It will be open with a spring in there.
    It's fine.......

Thanks for the quick reply. By the end of the seal I meant the outer lip and a tiny bit where the surface actually mates with the flat part of the seal. I20250215_170748.jpg ts a really tiny gouge. Sorry for the confusion. Here is a better Pic.

Make sure there is no bur on the "ding".
Drop a dap of black RTV on it and call it a day.

You could probably get away with not using RTV.
But might as well, just to be safe.

The important part is to make sure there is NO BUR on it.
If so, it will dig into the seal when you install it. And it will leak then.

BTW, when I say a "dab".
I mean like a tiny smudge right at the ding.
No need to go overboard. all you are doing is "filling the void" of ding.

And again, I bet you don't even need it.
But.......I like to do all I can NOT to redo a job.
