18yo rear ended me going about 20-25mph. Car in front of me stopped for a pedestrian in a neighborhood that has a lot of foot traffic. It was a very slow and predictable stop.

The kid has liability and thats it. He definitely comes from a lower middle class family at best. I feel for him but at the same time... dont text and drive.

My bumper is sagging a bit, and thats not the end of the world, but if my frame is bent, it is the end of the world.... Probably more for him than for me because there was a witness.

Do you guys think a 2003 ford SUV could bend my frame going about that speed? Any unfortunate past experience?
Please help curbed my anxiety for my baby being bent ):

    Thanks

Yes, an SUV could bend your frame going at that speed. Your frame has crumple zones designed to bend on impact to reduce the shock felt by the passengers inside. This protects you at the expense of the frame bending. The good news is that the bumper isn't mounted directly to the frame, there are brackets that can also bend on impact. You'll have to take a look underneath and see which one of the two (frame or brackets) bent causing your bumper to sag. Feeling bad for a kid doing dumb kid shit is normal (we were all there at some point), but let your insurance take care if it ,or conversely if the frame isn't bent, take the payout and buy that aftermarket bumper you've been eyeballing- black Friday deals are upon us!). It's not like he's going to jail and you're ruining the rest of his life for a minor accident with no injuries. At most his insurance will go up for a couple years- tough cookies, hopefully this will teach the kid to pay attention.

Makes sure your back and neck didn't get hurt too! You might not feel that until tomorrow. Also, check your seat for damage to mounting brackets or pivot where the seat and seat back meet. A friend got rear ended years ago and the seat frame broke at that pivot point.

His liability insurance will cover the damage to your truck. Collision is for your own vehicle only. He won't get anything for the damage done to his rig but you'll get a check from his insurance for the damage done to yours.

Just look under the truck, just past where the rear hitch brackets bolt to the frame is the most common spot for these trucks to bend. I just went through this and mine was bent after being rear-ended by a 35-40mph hit.

My daughter was broadsided in the left front wheel area in the silver Taco below. I was stunned by how little obvious damage was needed to total it. Frame, crossmember, etc.

If your coverage is superior to his, report it to your carrier. Pay your deductable and have it done right. Then your carrier can subrogate against his carrier for their money back. You will most likely be reimbursed your deductible. Glad you're not injured. I hate it that people can't put their fuckin phones down!

My buddy got rear ended in his ‘16 Tacoma when it was only 3 months old. Bent frame, but they wouldn’t total it even with 18k in repairs for the estimate. Took him 4 months to get his truck back to have a new frame delivered and installed by Toyota, he was pissed. Your frame end up being good?

Frame is ok. Took it to the dealership and they said there's literally nothing out of the ordinary under my truck. All the kid did was bend my bumper a lil bit down by about a 1/2 inch but my friends couldnt even tell, so its pretty subtle.

Talked to the father and got about $500 out of him for a new back bumper and my trouble etc.

Hope to god the tech at the dealership knew for sure my frame was all good
