I’m heading home from a road trip and my map light won’t turn off. The dome light is working fine but the map light stays on in all positions. I stopped, presses both door switches and made sure doors are shut but no luck. They are staying on even when I exit the vehicle with the keys and shut the doors. They won’t turn off no matter what and obviously I can’t keep them on until I can visit the dealer. Any ideas?

Push in on the face of the map light with your finger and it will go off.

Ha. I didn’t know I could press on the lights to turn them on and off. I wonder if the parking garage attendant turned them on when he retrieved my truck. Thanks, and a big duh for me.

Wonder if the owners manual would cover such a thing?

Apparently he was rifling through your stuff and stole your owners manual.

Sorry guys, I didn't have my manual with me and I was 300 miles from home. And never had to use those lights outside of their normal on/door/off operation via the switch. Guess I'll keep it in the truck from now on. Crisis was averted nonetheless.

Hey, when you just got your vehicle out of a New York City parking garage all sorts of things go through your head.

I thought I was going to have to disconnect my battery overnight!

that would be an interesting thread... "whats the stupidest thing you have ever done on your tacoma?"

OP would hold the record for a while.

Mine would be: not knowing what the ECT button did for the first year I owned the truck and was too lazy to google it.

Lol. And no way. What about that guy that set his kitchen on fire trying to bake his headlights? He’s still winning in my book.

(OP — people bake their Tacoma headlights so they can pry them apart and do things that theoretically make them look cooler. Its why I love TW; you don’t see that on the Ridgeline forums. But don’t go headlight baking in NYC — you’ll burn down three blocks of century-old rowhomes.)
