Help me choose a laptop...

I am looking for a new laptop and found 2 that are within my budget ($500 budget). I must get it at Bestbuy (gift from my Dad for Christmas). I am not sure what I should get. I don't play games, really only use it for internet, itunes and to store pictures.

What should I be looking for? Brands to stay away from? GB? Ram? Any recommendations or insight for other laptops would be appreciated. Thanks.
