Off road if you plan to keep it mostly stock as it is a solid truck off the line for most people's uses, I prefer the softer suspension feel, and the rear locker has come in handy and MTS is fun and easy to use. My general feedback on this question is that if you plan to spend a lot of money after marker on upgrading suspension and whatnot then Sport is fine and looks cool and all. If you are staying stock, the OR is the best truck for the money. i still can't understand why the Sport and OR are priced the same given you gain CRAWL, rear locker, MTS, good suspension over the Sport vs. with the sport you basically get color matched stuff and a scoop that "looks" cool but is non-functional and an obstruction (to me at least at 5'10")

Get the off road if you plan on going off road, simple as that. I have a '17 Off road and finally went off roading 2 weeks ago after 5 months of ownership. It was a lot of fun and look forward to going again, just need to get sliders and skids first.

Sure, but if they were actually doing research they would have just searched and read one of the thirty (plus) other threads that are exactly the same.

Not that easy sometimes. You have to match your phrases as well as sifting through pages and pages of TW shenanigans. Generally it's faster just to ask the question and have someone who already knows the answer be kind enough to answer it for them without sifting through responses such as "Oh yay. This thread again."

screw both get an SR with techpackage then get all the money you saved and upgrade the suspension and get some arb air lockers. The best thing is after all that you will still have extra money left over. This is what I would do if I could do it over again.

This is probably the better option if someone pre plans a build and knows what they want from the get go.

I agree. I love my OR but sometimes I wish I would've saved a few bucks and bought an SR instead. It may be worth checking one out if you're already visiting dealerships.

As previously stated, drive them both back to back. The choice may be pretty clear after that. It was for me. I was going to get the OR, for all the reasons everyone mentioned above (crawl, locker, etc), combined with the better ride. Ended up talking the wife into a Pro.

    Like, so many.
That would take some pre planning and some time, but it’s a good option.

Not sure why anyone can't use the search function and find one of the weekly threads asking the same question...

Also curious why everyone always recommends the OR, don't they realize the more people the buy them that have no use for them makes them harder to find for those that actually use them?

LOL at all those that trade in a 2wd because they "wanted a 4wd". If you needed it you would have bought it the first time, it is just an image purchase...

Seriously though OP, be an adult and test drive them both, two different suspensions and see which one you like better. If you aren't going to offroad pretty seriously (enough to where the locker actually comes in handy) the painted parts are better as they are easier to upkeep and they look nicer. Resale value between the two are going to be the exact same or with in the margin of error, ignore those that say otherwise.

Again, search, there is so much info on this exact subject but you will find more info by driving them...

You own a Land Rover I'd say you would be happier with an Offroad. Next decision, 5 foot box or 6 foot ?

    I'd buy an sr5 before I'd buy a sport. OR then sr5.

I chose a 16 sport with a long bed because i like the extra space in the box, the matched fenders, and the scoop. I didnt realize how much I would off road it, but honestly it doesnt even matter. I, and most folks, ripped out the stock suspension which are both not as as good (sport or OR) as compared to any of the leading aftermarket manufacturers (I went with ADS). I am planning on re-gearing soon and when I do, Ill add the ARB air lockers. GO for what you like and what looks/feels right to you. If you stay on the forum long enough, you will want to replace the stock suspension without a doubt. All the electrical doo-dads the OR provide arent needed. Trucks have been going off road for decades without ATRAC or crawl control or any of that stuff and thats how I wanted mine... so the sport worked out perfectly for my needs, desires for the look, and future upgrades.

Edit: @ChadsPride has "liked" my vehicle by installing the "ChadsPride likes this patch" which also has to count for something :)

MT doesn't have the obnoxiously large crawl control knob. i've thought about opening it up and seeing how big the parts are behind it. if the knob and 2 buttons could be relocated out to the huge blank space next to the sunroof controls, then i could just use a smaller knob on it and get the sunglass holder up there.

I went sport 2017, for multiple reasons.

1: If I had the lockers/crawl, I'd be more tempted to use it, which in turn beats on my truck more.
2: I live in Maine, lots of winding back roads. Wanted stiffer suspension for all those corners
    3: Sport looks better IMO
4: if I get a scratch on the painted fenders, I can buff them. Scratches on flat plastic, well, you're stuck with the scratches. Try to remove them and you'll get Shiney spots in the plastic and it'll look odd.
5: I've off roaded ever since i got my license nearly 20 years ago. Never needed lockers or crawl knob as I learned to do it all on a 92 Nissan, 97 Nissan, and 2003 Tacoma. None of which had lockers and I've never had issues. Skill > Technology.
And 6: the Blue TRD Sport attracts more females than I can roll a broken down F150 down a hill at. If I wasn't engaged, my truck would do all the work for me. :p
