Help me decide a tire size

...however, I wasn't sure and would have rather had the opinions of folks here who have experience first hand. That's why I asked.

 

I've said it before, but I've always loved your truck, @ChadsPride. I'm actually going for a look similar to yours before the armor.

So, after feedback from everyone's comments, I think I will probably play it safe and go with the 265s.

 

Mine are 285/70/17

 

But you had to cut, right?

 

I’m running 285/70/17 1” less lift than you are planning but with jba ucas and do not rub and did not cut anything , removed mud flaps.

 

You need to take into account that most spindle lift widen the track by 3/4” that like buying a wheel with -18 offset. So if are running a 0 offset wheel it is gonna act like it has -18 offset when come to the scrub radius of the tire. These are things that need to be taken into account when it comes to tire size. Are you planning on running an oem wheel or after market ? You’ll need to know the offset of these wheels then account for the track width added by the spindles. Lots of things to think of.

 

A slight trim of the bottom inside part of the front plastic fender flares. Did a CMC when I still had 265s in preparation.

Thanks for the info. Yeah, it's a lot of info. I've been researching for months, and my head still spins.

The wheels I'm looking at are - 10 mm. If my math is right, according to Maxtracs suggestions, it should be within limits.

 

What width are they?

 

If I remember correctly the maxtracs add 3/4” to each side in track width which is -19mm + your -10 = -29 or approx 1.15”. So your wheel based on a factory spindle will have the scrub radius of a wheel with a -29 offset -/+ a mm.

More than likely a cmc with the 285s and little plastic trim. That added track width from the spindles is a huge difference. Like I mentioned before I have zero issues with 3” cause I have the jba’s and running 4* of caster. The extra caster helps a lot.

Hmmm...now that I think about it, I think I should get the +10mm instead of the -10mm, right?

And if the formula for backspace is Wheel width ÷ 2 + offset + ½” = Backspacing, then -10mm will give me approx 4.35", where as +10mm will give me approx 5.14".

lol, this is why I ask this stuff. There's sooooo much to think about, I would appreciate other eyes looking to make sure I'm not missing anything.

 

Correct. If you get a wheel that negates the added track width that’s added by the spindle and doesn’t give any issue with spindle or uca clearance it would help minimize things that may need trimming. If you go +10 then it would be like running 8.5 with -9 offset basically. Just make sure the maxtrac spindle you can use a wheel with a 5”+ backspace.
